Spend an afternoon pottering around the cobbled streets of Harrogate, 13 miles, and pop into the local tea rooms for a scrumptious afternoon tea. If you really want a taste of the country, don’t miss the Great Yorkshire Show in July. The city of York, voted the best city in the UK to live in, is just 14 miles, immerse yourself in the history as you follow the ancient walls that surround the city interspersed with independent shops and vibrant eateries. For those who prefer getting back to nature, there are plenty of local walks from your doorstep or why not venture to the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding National Beauty and Yorkshire Dales for an abundance of rambling routes and cycle trails. A little further afield is the Yorkshire Coast, including Bridlington, Filey, Scarborough and Whitby, home to the picturesque seaside villages of Robin Hood’s Bay, Runswick Bay and Staithes.
