The cottage is named after its address on Maison Dieu in the old part of Richmond, enjoying an elevated position and beautiful views over the town and surrounding countryside. It is easy to explore on foot, wandering down the hill to discover historic buildings, interesting museums, a cobbled market square (market day is Saturday), quirky boutiques and independent shops, cafes and restaurants. Walk or cycle beside the River Swale to Richmond Castle, passing waterfalls and other picturesque sights along the way.

Richmond is ideally located for exploring North Yorkshire, being close to both the Yorkshire Dales National Park as well as the North York Moors National Park, both of which have spectacular scenery and lots of ways to be outdoors and active above ground and below. Walking, caving, mountain biking, horse riding, rock climbing and golf are all popular pastimes, and with the coast an hour's drive from the cottage, you can spend a day swimming at the beach if you feel like it when you wake up.

Although it is a period property, the owners have sympathetically updated and decorated it to have a fresh, contemporary feel. Outside: Steps lead from the kitchen and dining room to the garden at the rear of the cottage which has mature flowering plants and views of the Swaledale Valley. There are loungers for sunny days and a fire pit to keep you warm while stargazing or eating outdoors in cooler weather.
