About this property

This stone bungalow lies in the lovely village of Gillamoor, on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, with countryside views to the rear and a charming village church located to the front. Only a short way from the coast and Hutton-le-Hole, this cottage is a perfect chance for couples or families to get away from it all, and provides friends with an excuse to explore the local area and beyond. Inside Henhouse Cottage, discover the open-plan living area, a collection of comfy seating surrounds a woodburning stove, with a dining table tucked into the corner of the room; your own little place to choose one of the books on offer, and simply unwind. Besides the original stone features and characterful accessories, the layout is tied together with a stylish floor rug. Once you have relaxed amidst it all, make your way towards the two bedrooms; the first is presented as a king-size double, whilst the second features a zip/link option should you wish to make use of this. High ceilings and exposed beams wrap around the interior, finished with a delightful en-suite and a wet room, to cater for all guests. When the sun is shining, why not wander outside through the beautiful French doors for some peace and quiet on the outdoor furniture, an enclosed garden with a lawned area awaits, backed by open countryside views. For a taste of the village, head out to The Royal Oak Inn only a short stroll away, Gillamoor and its near neighbour Fadmoor are built on the flat top of one of the tabular hills. As you drive north across the middle of the hill, steep valleys are just out of sight on each side. The nearby village of Hutton-Le-Hole has a complex of craft shops, workshops, tea rooms and gift shops to visit, or the attractive old market town of Kirkbymoorside lies on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, in between the towns of Helmsley and Pickering; a charming place with a slightly 'old fashioned feel'. Both the City of York and the Yorkshire Coast rest at easy distance. A getaway not to be missed.

The village of Gillamoor rests approximately three miles north of Kirkbymoorside on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. It nestles on the flat top of one of the tabular hills featuring a National Trail for walking. Just to the left of the village church is Gillamoor's 'Surprise View', built right on the edge of a moorland escarpment. After a long walk through the countryside and looking for a spot to relax, head into The Royal Oak Inn which is a Grade II listed building and has been part of the village community since the mid-seventeenth century, offering cuisine cooked to order. Gillamoor is the place to be for anyone seeking a quiet spot in the North Yorkshire countryside, whilst the city of York is within easy driving distance.

Rosemary kindly left a lovely welcome pack of organic milk and eggs plus a cake. The dogs loved the garden which was fully enclosed and safe. We shall certainly put it on our list to revisit again in the future. Thank you Rosemary and Polly, the dog, for a brilliant holiday cottage which enabled us to have a great break in North Yorkshire.

It had everything we needed for our stay, and is situated in a charming little village, with a vista to die for a short walk from the cottage, aptly named ‘Surprise View’! It was warm, cosy, and great to return to after busy days out exploring the local area. Rosemary, the owner, who was extremely helpful, very kindly left us cakes, eggs and fresh milk from a local farm. We will definitely return!
