Close at hand are the abbeys of Rievauix and Byland and the National Trust properties of Nunnington Hall and Rievauix Terraces and Temples. The charming market town of Helmsley is just six miles away, winner of the "best Market Town High St 2015" with a wealth of unique shops, galleries, charming tea rooms and restaurants. In addition you can explore the dramatic ruins of Helmsley Castle and visit the 5 acre walled garden nestled at the foot of the castle which was built in 1759 to provide produce for the nearby Duncombe Park. The bustling market town of Pickering is just 7 miles away, with its castle, museum, varied shops and eateries and the North Yorkshire Moors Steam railway, where you can enjoy a ride on a magnificent steam train through the breath-taking scenery. Within easy reach are Whitby, the East Coast and the historic city of York.
