Harvest Cottage in Pickering receives high praise for its cleanliness, idyllic location, and the warm welcome provided by the owners, Heather and Steve. Guests appreciate the thoughtful touches like homemade cakes and a tea tray, as well as the cottage's proximity to local attractions and walks. The village's friendly atmosphere and the local pub's good food are frequently mentioned. While some guests found the comfort and facilities to be excellent, a few noted the sofa and mattress could be improved, and the storage heaters were tricky to manage.

Cleanliness

Location

The cottage's location is highly praised for its tranquillity, scenic surroundings, and easy access to the moors, coast, and local attractions. The village's charm and the proximity to a good pub add to the appeal, although the single access road's steepness is noted.

Comfort

While many guests find the cottage comfortable and cosy, there are mixed reviews regarding the sofa and mattress, with some guests finding them less comfortable. The presence of both positive and negative comments on comfort leads to a slightly reduced score.

Facilities are generally well-regarded, with the cottage being described as well-equipped. However, some guests experienced difficulties with the storage heaters, and a suggestion was made for additional seating, indicating room for improvement.

Thoughtfulness

The owners' thoughtfulness is frequently mentioned, with guests appreciating the homemade cakes and tea tray on arrival. While these gestures are warmly received, it is noted that such personal touches, though common, cannot be guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

A very pretty stone and pantiled semi-detached cottage, created from the conversion of a former granary building on the owner's family-run livestock and arable farm, set in the heart of the picturesque village of Levisham. Converted to a high standard and with a cosy and welcoming feel, this lovely, well laid out cottage offers superb open-plan accommodation, and is tastefully decorated and furnished, with shared use of a lovely large walled garden. This is an ideal base for exploring the coast and North York Moors, as well as the maze of footpaths in the surrounding hills and valleys.

High on the Yorkshire Moors, to the north of Pickering is the tiny, picturesque village of Levisham. Composed of a cluster of farms and a variety of attractive, neat stone cottages around a village green, this little settlement boasts a pub and a village church whilst there are shops 6 miles away in Pickering. Rising above the nearby Hole of Horcum - where the devil is said to have fallen to earth - is Levisham Beck which flows along a steep wooded valley. At the foot of this is a watermill and small waterfall, adding to the picturesque scenery. Throughout the beautiful countryside visitors can find a maze of tracks and footpaths whilst nearby Levisham station is a stop on the North York Moors Steam Railway. The area also hosts a number of castles, historic houses and moorland villages, as well as a variety of fishing facilities.
