From this base there are many nearby walks, both in the Forge Valley and Dalby Forest, which has numerous cycling tracks for all abilities; a short drive brings you to popular Scarborough, with its sandy beaches, restaurants and shops. There are numerous walks straight from the door, while the nearby bustling town of Pickering hosts the terminus of the famous North York Moors Steam Railway, which winds its way through heather clad moors to Grosmont and Whitby. Malton, dubbed the food capital of the UK with its monthly food festivals, is easily accessible by car and other local attractions include Dalby Forest, with its biking and walking tracks, Duncombe Park, Castle Howard and the pretty market town of Helmsley.
