Kirkbymoorside 9.1 miles. An unusual converted chapel, done in the style of a 1970s ski lodge, surrounded by picturesque countryside within the North York Moors National Park in the quiet hamlet of Thorgill near Kirkbymoorside. The Old Chapel is a great base for a family or group of six wanting to enjoy the picturesque scenery of the national park, while the North Yorkshire coast is also within easy reach. Enter the property into the charming, traditional sitting room, with fantastic wooden beams, a woodburning stove, a TV and bookshelves with a selection of books and games in the alcove that will provide hours of entertainment, along with a choice of sofas to relax onto and deep red hues on the walls, complimenting the fireplace and giving the room a warming, cosy feel. The kitchen/diner has a large window which allows in plenty of light, as well as lovely wooden flooring and is fully equipped with all the appliances you need to cook meals at home, to be enjoyed at the large dining table, which can comfortably seat the whole group, and the window seat in this space is a great spot to enjoy a quiet moment while enjoying the picturesque countryside views. There is a ground floor double bedroom and a shower room, while upstairs there is are two quirky bedrooms under the eaves and a handy cloakroom with basin and WC. Outside there is a large lawned garden with a bench and table, so you can enjoy lunch outside, while you take in the rolling countryside views that surround the property. Located just over a mile away from the popular tourist destination of Rosedale Abbey, where you can visit the local cafes, local shop or one of the local pubs, the closest being the White Horse, known for its stunning views of the countryside and gastro meals. The peaceful hamlet of Thorgill is close to the centre of the national park, and is within easy reach of numerous walking and cycling routes through magnificent rolling countryside, including Alfred Wainwright's Coast to Coast, the Cleveland Way and the Lyke Wake Walk, as well as the National Trust's Bridestones, Crosscliff & Blakey Topping and the enchanting Dalby Forest. The market town of Kirkbymoorside is just outside of the national park, offering a great selection of shops, tearooms, pubs, restaurants and a weekly market, held on a Wednesday, while nearby Pickering, on the fringes of the moors, has a 13th century castle with a tower, offering stunning views, as well as a social history museum. Other nearby attractions to note include Flamingo Land, a family-friendly theme park, and the National Trust's Nunnington Hall, a magnificent manor house with meadows and a walled garden to explore. The North Yorkshire coastline is a brief drive away, where you can choose from a variety of popular resorts and lovely sandy beaches, with Filey, Scarborough and Whitby all in easy reach. The Old Chapel is a wonderful base for a family holiday exploring the countryside and coastline of North Yorkshire.
The old market town of Kirkbymoorside lies on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, between Helmsley and Pickering. It is the centre for local farms and villages, as well as a variety of shops, tea rooms, pubs, restaurants and antique shops, while market day runs each Wednesday. The excellent walking and magnificent scenery of the North York Moors National Park is within easy reach, as are the picturesque villages of Hutton-le-Hole and Lastingham.
