The beautiful village of Brompton lies 8 miles to the west of Scarborough, a tranquil picturesque village home to the church where the poet William Wordsworth married. A picture postcard village with a small stream running down to a picnic area. Here you can feed the ducks and watch the swans and other wildlife.
The farmer’s hens roam freely around the village which gives that feeling of really being in the countryside and amongst the farming community. The house is in a quiet area next to the church and benefits from a large enclosed garden with woodland areas and lots of space for the children to run and play. There’s a Wendy house and a summer house that serve as a getaway for the kids, with game consoles and a TV. The main house has a large open plan living, dining and kitchen area with wonderful large windows that overlook the garden. The property benefits from having 3 bathrooms.
On the first floor there is a mezzanine area that leads to two further bedrooms that are linked by an open plan passage way with a bathroom, perfect for a family to have their own floor and have the children close by.
The seaside resort of Scarborough is just 8 miles away and is a traditional resort with two large beaches and plenty for all age groups to do.
Lawnswood is just two miles from the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, where there are fantastic walks and trails that lead up to the Dalby Forest. The forest is famous for its bike trails and in the past has been home to the World Championship Mountain Bike event. The visitor centre within the forest is popular all year round with its great café and the events that are organised for the children throughout the year. It’s also home to ‘Go Ape’ a high ropes adventure course with zip wires and swings.
Lawnswood is a perfect base to visit the Yorkshire Wolds, the North York Moors and the East Coast. Beach 9 miles. Shop 300 yards, pub 2 miles, restaurant 1 mile.

The house was really lovely and deceptively large! It was also decorated beautifully for Christmas with a lovely little hamper left for us to use. The kitchen was small but had all the equipment needed (I always pack a bunch of things because most self catering lacks essentials) which was a nice change and we managed a full roast dinner with all the trimmings for 10 people in the one oven. The additional fridge in the hallway cupboard was a blessing and the pantry was brilliant too. The dining table was perfect for the number of guests but the sofas were not and they were not the most comfortable. The outdoor space was fabulous although we really only used the hot tub as the weather wasn’t great. We felt the hot tub was a little too hot and also didn’t have quite enough water on it but fine to use. One thing I was quite disappointed by was the bathrooms and the cleanliness of those, in the upstairs one for example there is mould all around the shower seals and there was an old hair band full of someone else’s hair left on the knobs you would turn to change the temp. The shower upstairs was also horrifically noisy and high pitched. Downstairs the shower is really dark and the step left outside of the bath wasn’t fixed and one of our guests almost slipped coming out which wasn’t ideal. Finally, the downstairs bedroom at the front of the house was really damp, as mentioned by others and as a result was really cold and was not pleasant to sleep in at all. I would come back and I would recommend the house but it feels like there a couple of things being overlooked and/or not addressed which is a shame. If I came back I would want to see these sorted.

Beautiful hone however there is a clear damp problem in the bottom of the house especially the bedrooms which smelt of damp. The upstairs bathroom need some looking at as ended up having to clean out the drain ourselves. Kitchen loving room was comfortable but not set up for the 10 people apparently the house can sleepLovely outdoor areas hot tub was lovely could have done with more tlc during the week maybe a change of water as by the end water looked very murky. If the house was given some tlc we would definitely visit again

Lovely house and excellent garden. Plenty of space for children to play. Easy reach of Scarborough etc.Could do with more lighting over dining area.
