Sandsend is a picture perfect coastal village. In summer children play in the sand whilst families soak up the sun enjoying picnics and ice creams with paddle boarders gliding over the sublime water. In the winter the powerful waves crash over the sea wall and are an incredible sight to behold. This Grade II listed, mid-terrace, stone-built cottage has been beautifully furnished, making a great place for a holiday all year round.
This old fisherman’s cottage is steeped in history. There are lots of quirky unique features including a ships mast which had been salvaged by the builders and is used as a supporting beam in the attic bedroom. The current owner’s’ family purchased the property in 1962, and they lovingly restored as well as extended the property in 2014, making this an exceptional cottage which is deceptively spacious inside.
Set over three floors, on the ground floor you have a cosy living room with furniture situated around the focal point wood burner, adding atmosphere as well as a heightened sense of comfort to your evenings. They say the heart of the home is the kitchen. This beautiful kitchen is open plan with the dining area and is bathed with light from the bi-fold glass doors leading out into a small south-facing courtyard, creating an open feel. Up on the first floor you have a twin bedroom as well as a single bedroom, which leads through into a reading room, perfect as a snug space for children to play board games together, or to spend some peaceful time alone relaxing with a good book. From the reading room you have a south facing large balcony over the courtyard, perfect for enjoying the evening sun with a glass of wine or two. The family bathroom is also on the first floor. On the second floor you will find the family bathroom as well as a beautiful master bedroom with an en-suite shower. The best views are enjoyed from the master bedroom window, looking out over the beach and to the sea.
The location is fabulous. Sandsend is a gorgeous little coastal village, at low tide you have a vast expanse of soft sand stretching for miles. In the village there are some wonderful cafés, a small local shop, a friendly local pub as well as a popular restaurant. Following the coastline you have the Cleveland Way walking trail, leading up north towards Runswick Bay, Staithes and Saltburn, or to the south you have Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay, Ravenscar and Scarborough, all of which are ideal for days out and have their own character and charm. You are surrounded by the North York Moors National Park which you can explore on foot, by car or even by steam train. The heritage railway runs from Whitby to Pickering and stops at some beautiful villages along the way. With the glorious coastline as well as the epic landscapes of the North York Moors, all within easy reach you will be spoilt for choice for places to explore.
Free WiFi
There is a step to the entrance and steep stairs to the second floor. 1 dog only.
Parking in Sandsend is difficult, especially during the summer - you should be able to unload outside by stopping in the lane just past the cottage and may be lucky and get a spot on the road outside the cottage. There is often free parking available besides the public WCs by the Doctors' surgery (distinctive building as you come into Sandsend from Whitby) after day trippers have left or you may find some on road parking elsewhere in the village. The carpark over the bridge is day time only, but the car park at the bottom of Lythe Bank is overnight parking (£6/day).
