A traditional, stone-built semi-detached cottage, close to the shore, it enjoys uninterrupted views across the Lynn of Lorne towards Port Appin. Originally a traditional farm building and now sympathetically restored, Point Steading can comfortably accommodate an adventurous family, a group of friends or is equally ideal for a romantic couple’s getaway. A combination of electric heating, and lovely wood burner keeps the place warm and cosy. With very little light or noise pollution, the modern world feels a long way away, and days can be spent wandering along the coast of beautiful Lismore, exploring North Argyll, or snuggled with a good book enjoying the beautiful views from every window. Wonderfully welcoming open-plan living downstairs, the farm cottage atmosphere is enhanced by beamed ceiling and hardwood floors. Deep windowsills and a lovely bay window in the living area perfectly frame the stunning views across the Lynn of Lorne. The well-equipped kitchen is centred around the big farmhouse table in front of a cosy wood burner and there’s a patio door leading out into the pretty enclosed side garden. The bathroom is also on this floor. Upstairs there are three comfortable bedrooms, two with twin beds and a master bedroom with kingsize bed, all enjoying views of Loch Linnhe and the surrounding countryside. Outside there is a covered seating area to the front of the cottage, where you can sit, surrounded by garden flowers, enjoying the stunning views, which leads to the pretty cottage garden at the front. There’s also a sheltered side garden with garden seating.
Point Steading is at the most northern tip of the Isle of Lismore, (meaning the ’Great Garden’ in Gaelic), which is a low lying fertile Inner Hebridean island, about 10 miles long, situated in Loch Linnhe (a sea loch) which can be accessed by car ferry from Oban to Achnacroish at the south of the island or by passenger ferry from Port Appin to the north of the island. The quiet single track road which runs the length of the island is not particularly hilly and is ideal for cycling expeditions. There are interesting historic and natural sights of interest throughout the island and there is even a handy and excellent café at the island’s Heritage Centre for refreshments along the way! The island is well served for amenities with a well-stocked village shop and post office, café, heritage centre with museum, bike hire, taxi service, wildlife tours, church and village hall. There are fabulous restaurants, cafés and pubs nearby, serving good, local food, and the lovely village of Port Appin has a gift shop, village store and some lovely coastal walks. It’s also is home to two of Scotland’s most prestigious eating places, so you can cross on the foot ferry, enjoy an excellent meal and a drink without requiring a car! The nearby village of Appin, offers gift shops, cafés, hotel, a renowned garden centre and a garage with fuel. Lismore is conveniently located, between Fort William, known as the ’Outdoor Capital of the UK’, and the popular town of Oban, the ‘Seafood Capital of Scotland’ and ‘Gateway to the Isles’. Glencoe, with its stunning scenery, popular walks and climbs, is just on the doorstep.
