Located on Bartaggart Farm, and situated in the upland area of the Glenkens of Galloway with open views across farm and moor land, yet within easy access of the Solway and Ayrshire coasts.

The cottage is an ideal base for the outdoor enthusiast. There is easy access on to the Southern Upland Way, offering superb walking. The Galloway Forest Park is nearby with opportunities for mountain biking, walking and star gazing as it is a nominated Dark Sky Park due to the low levels of light pollution. Loch Ken is almost on the doorstep and is a renowned course fishery, and home to Galloway Activity Centre which offers arrange of water and land-based activities all year round. The whole area is a wild life watchers paradise with the rspb Ken-Dee Marshes nature reserve and Red Kite Feeding Station both within a short drive. For those looking for more cultural activities then a visit to nearby Kirkcudbright, a small historic town on the banks of the River Dee which formed the home of "The Glasgow Boys and Girls" artists groups resulting in the town being recognised as Scotland's Artists' Town. These connections mean that it has been a mecca for artists over the years and there are a number of exciting galleries and regular major art exhibitions in the Kirkcudbright Galleries, it is also home to NTS Broughton House and the recently opened Dark Sky Planetarium. Culzean Castle on the Ayrshire coast is also worth a visit.

Bartaggart Farm has indoor equestrian facilities and holidaymakers are welcome to bring their horses with them as stabling can be provided.
