West Lodge (31263) is a delightful, detached, 19th-century gate lodge which was at one time the estate schoolhouse, which might account for the unusually ornate slatework on the roof, which makes it look a little like a gingerbread house. It has some of the best views on the estate across the Solway Firth to the Lake District and the Isle of Man, along the Colvend Coast taking in Southerness lighthouse and the Portling cliffs and across rolling farmland to Criffel Mountain. Although it looks small on the outside, it provides comfortable accommodation for 4 guests. The property is all one level but unfortunately the doors may be too narrow for some wheelchairs
Powillimount Cottage (31264) is a three bedroom, traditional stone built Galloway cottage. It is quiet and secluded, surrounded by cornfields and is just a 5-minute walk from a fabulous beach. The cottage has idyllic views of the sea, Southerness Lighthouse and the Lake District Mountains to the front and Criffel, Galloway’s finest mountain behind.
The ancient Barony of Arbigland comprises farmland, woodland and foreshore on the Solway Firth coast, bounded by the River Nith near Dumfries in the south west of Scotland. With its outstanding natural beauty and rich diversity of wildlife, the estate forms part of the Nith Estuary Special Area of Conservation and Upper Solway Special Site of Scientific Interest. Nearby outdoor activities include golf, fishing, mountain biking, horse riding, bird watching, shooting, stalking and hill walking. Beach 1 mile. Shop and pub 1 mile, restaurant 6 miles.
