Small but perfectly formed, The Smiddy is set in a peaceful part of the Scottish Highlands, the most Westerly point of the UK mainland, on the road to the Isles. The grounds underwent a stunning renovation project in 2009, with the cottage lying next to a small burn, and sits adjacent to the owner’s house.

The cottage is well-equipped throughout and built to a very good specification, with underfloor heating and double glazing. Located just east of Lochailort in the small village of Roshven which takes its name from nearby mountain Rois-Bheinn, the highest hill in the area. The Smiddy is the perfect base to explore and discover the best the West Highlands has to offer. There are many walks nearby including Rois-Bheinn, and pristine, sandy beaches along the coast which offer views of the small isles of Eigg, Muck and Rum. Various local boat tours are available with the possibility of glimpses of local wildlife, and trips to the Isle of Skye, the Small Isles or Tobermory. The surrounding area is a haven for wildlife, with an abundance of deer, seabirds, seals, otters and pine martens all to be seen close by, as well as the odd basking shark.

Slightly further afield, you can visit the Ardnamurchan Lighthouse - the most westerly point of the British Isles, and take a tour around the Distillery whilst you sample a wee dram, and enjoy views over Loch Sunart en-route. Why not take the iconic Jacobite steam train from Fort William to Mallaig, to see the Glenfinnan Viaduct? Fishermen can fly or sea fish locally, and golfers are well-catered for at the stunning Traigh golf course which lies adjacent to the glorious white sands of Morar. The Smiddy is also within easy driving distance of Ben Nevis, Glencoe, Loch Ness, Mallaig and Oban. Beach ¼ mile. Shop and restaurant 3 miles, pub 5 miles.
