Seashells is a quintessential seaside cottage, located in the pretty hamlet of Rockfield overlooking the Moray Firth, which is home to the largest school of dolphins in the UK. This charming fisherman’s cottage, set 50 yards from the seashore, has been beautifully decorated throughout and provides bright and spacious accommodation in a truly superb setting. It is ideally located for exploring the whole of the Highland region.
The living room is generously proportioned with a former fireplace acting as an attractive focal point. The picture windows drink in the ever-changing views across the firth. There is a large kitchen/dining room which easily accommodates up to six guests. The bathroom/wet room is on the ground floor and has a deep, double ended bath, a shower, and is extremely spacious, and there is also a shower room on the first floor. With three good sized bedrooms, Seashells is ideal for families seeking a good standard of accommodation in a seaside location. It has a delightful enclosed garden from where you can enjoy a family BBQ in the summer, and conveniently boasts private parking for 2 cars immediately outside the cottage.
This pretty fishing village owes its very existence to the sea. Built mainly in the 1820s, during the salmon and herring fishing ’boom’, its attractive white washed cottages along the sand and rocky shoreline have been lovingly restored over the years and the village is now a quiet and relaxing backwater that provides an ideal base for visitors to enjoy its quiet charm. There are lovely walks along the shoreline which extend around the coastline to neighbouring seaboard villages direct from the cottage. Sea fishing is also possible directly off the pier, which is 100 yards from Seashells. The nearby village of Portmahomack, 1½ miles away, has a superb, sweeping, sandy beach with stunning views to the Sutherland mountains beyond. The village also boasts a shop, café, bistro, the highly acclaimed seafood restaurant and a lovely traditional links golf course which is open to visitors. This area is also renowned for its archaeological sites and at the nearby Tarbet Discovery Centre, there is a fascinating display of Pictish, Norse and medieval artefacts. Ten minutes’ drive away lies the oldest Royal Burgh of Scotland, Tain. Predominantly built in local mellow sandstone it is a charming historic town and offers an excellent selection of small shops, supermarkets, restaurants, cafés and pubs, as well as a wide variety of sporting and recreational facilities to include tennis courts, golf club, bowls club, public gardens and interesting local museum, all of which are available to visitors. Beach 50 yards. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.
