A traditional, whitewashed cottage situated 2km outside of the small village of Malin, in County Donegal. Barney's Lodge rests on an elevated site overlooking the countryside, with views of Trawbrega Bay in the distance. From the lane to the cottage, there is hedging with a natural spring well tucked into a old stone wall, which flows past the cottage in a brook, surrounded by ancient trees and seasonal plants and flowers. With a charming woodburner and a garden with a barbecue to enjoy summer evenings with friends and family, this cottage is the ideal location for touring the Inishowen Peninsula, the Causeway Coast and Glens and Derry City. Presented all on the ground floor, you are welcomed inside by a cosy living room, inviting you to gather around the fire and warm up from a cold winter's day. The kitchen is neatly presented and ideal for rustling up a hearty breakfast before stepping out to explore the area. The bedrooms are well-presented, offering six guests a choice of two doubles or a twin, with a family bathroom for you to freshen up in. Take in the surrounding views of green fields and craggy mountains as you listen to the sounds of nature bringing the scene to life. Malin is easily reached from the cottage with traditional pubs, shops and a café. From here, head to the Five Fingers Strand and then up onto cliff top view at Knockamany Bens, where you will stand in awe of its beauty. Malin Head, Ireland's most northerly point, offers vast night skies where you can experience the Northern Lights. Barney's Lodge is surrounded by the history and beauty of Inishowen, boasting the Grianán of Aileach, a ring-shaped fort that stands at the entrance to the peninsula with breath-taking views across Lough Foyle and Lough Swilly. Kinnago Bay is only a 15-minute drive away and the market town of Carndonagh is also nearby with supermarkets, hairdressers, beauticians and a great selection of pubs restaurants and takeaways. Ballyliffen Golf Club, home of the Irish Open in 2018 is also worth a visit. A lovely little cottage offering a touch of traditional Irish charm, with plenty of adventure beckoning you.
Malin is a small yet delightful place filled with an abundance of history and culture. It is home to a shop, bar, restaurant and tea room. It is also home to the second largest stone bridge in Ireland with its ten arches spanning the bay. Doagh Famine Village is just 9 miles away, giving people a real insight into what it was like living in Ireland from the 1800s right up until today.
