About this property

Newby Bridge 2.2 miles. Resting in the hamlet of Finsthwaite near Newby Bridge, Cumbria is this traditional, pet-friendly cottage, Tanyard Cottage. Ideally located in the Lake District National Park, you'll have easy access to Grizedale and Lake Windermere, along with a delightful, open-plan living space for a family of three to call home. Find roadside parking right next to the cottage and follow six slate steps down to the front, enclosed patio area, a lovely spot to enjoy your quiet, rural surroundings with a hot cup of coffee. Kick off your boots in the porch entrance, handy for storing wet jackets and drying off the dog, before stepping inside the open-plan living space; warm your feet on the beautiful slate floor with underfloor heating, admire the old beams and contemporary touches. Rustle up your favourite home-cooked meals in the stylish kitchen, complete with a washing machine to sort muddy walking gear and a dishwasher for easy clean-ups. Plan your holiday adventures over a hearty meal at the dining table for four, then sink into the corner sofa in front of the TV with DVD player; start the woodburning stove and lay down a blanket for your canine companion to rest their paws. After a fun-filled day exploring the Lakes, climb the stairs to relish a hot shower whilst your towel toasts on the heated towel rail in the shower room. Retire to the well-appointed king-size or single with wooden furnishings and storage for your belongings. You'll be in the heart of Finsthwaite, a traditional hamlet with a relaxing atmosphere, along with plenty of good walks right on your doorstep; venture to High Dam or follow the shores of Lake Windermere, followed by a well-earned pint at The Swan Hotel. Bowness-on-Windermere and Windermere are a short drive away for boat tours along the lake, Windermere Golf Club and The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction. Outdoor lovers will find hiking or mountain biking through idyllic woodland for fabulous mountain-top views! If that's not for you, hop on the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway for rides in old-fashioned coaches to admire the Lake District's iconic scenery, whilst the quaint villages of Hawkshead, Grange, Ambleside and Coniston area all a short drive away. For a traditional, pet-friendly cottage in the Lake District, book your stay at Tanyard Cottage.

Newby Bridge, a small settlement on the banks of the River Leven, is named after a five-arched stone bridge built in 1651. Between Haverthwaite and Newby Bridge, the famed Furness Railway, one of Britain's oldest working standard gauge steam railways, operates. Visit the Lakeside Hotels for spectacular views of Windermere and the surrounding fells, or visit the Aquarium of the Lakes to learn about the history of the Lakes through organically designed habitats.

Although it had underfloor heating, the log burner had to be used aswell which was lovely. The porch however needs a total rebuild as it was wet most of the time due to the weather & there being a drainpipe inside it. The catch on the gate needs replacing aswell as it kept opening with the wind which is not good when you've got a dog.

Ended up having to stay an extra day which the owner was so understanding about. Very beautiful area and the cottage is so cosy.

Kitchen was well equipped. Bed was soft and warm. Neutral and modern decor but still had charm. Only issue we had was limited parking spots if there were other cars parked on the road. Sofa isn’t the comfiest but was fine for us. Lovely walks on your doorstep.
