Guests say

Gable Lodge in Windermere is praised for its excellent location, comfortable beds, and quiet atmosphere. Guests appreciate its proximity to local amenities and the lovely views. While some find the cottage homely and well-equipped, others note areas for improvement, particularly in updating and maintenance.

Cleanliness receives mixed reviews. Some guests report the property as clean, especially upstairs, while others mention areas that are dirty and grimy, with a notable smell downstairs. The inconsistency leads to a slightly above average score.

The location is highly praised for being central, quiet, and convenient, with easy access to shops, restaurants, and local attractions. The proximity to amenities and the views of the playing field are frequently mentioned as positives.

Comfort is generally well-regarded, with guests finding the beds comfortable and the rooms cosy. However, some guests mention issues with heating and drafty rooms, which affects the overall comfort level.

Facilities are adequate but several guests note the need for updates, including a new TV, dishwasher, and toaster. Maintenance issues like noisy appliances and blocked sinks are concerns, leading to an average score.

There is insufficient information to score thoughtfulness accurately. While some guests mention a lack of welcome gifts, it is not a consistent theme across the reviews, and it is not clear if gifts are typically provided or expected.

About this property

In a quiet side street, yet so handy for the buzz of Bowness & Windermere, and of course, the Lake, this lodge cottage has been beautifully refurbished to provide excellent holiday space for 4 people.

The living room is made for cosy evenings in by the wood-burner, with a bay window with views across the park. The well-equipped kitchen/ dining room has everything you need, and the bedrooms are chic and spacious. The front patio opens onto a park providing a great immediate extension to the green surroundings, a lovely place to enjoy a morning coffee or a sundowner. The modern bathroom is on the ground floor, and 2 spacious bedrooms – 1 king-size, 1 double are on the first floor, with a second WC, and basin. This convenient bolt hole is a treat at any time of year.

Windermere village centre has a delightful busy traditional feel, with lots of shops, galleries and cafes, along with a superior Booths supermarket., traditional Lakeland pubs and restaurants. 2 miles down the road, you’ll discover the bustling, cosmopolitan Bowness-on-Windermere, with shops, bars, restaurants and of course the Lake itself. Here you enjoy lake cruises, which can take you up to Ambleside & Lakeside, hire boats and generally enjoy the fantastic views. Jump straight onto the main A591 to head north along to Ambleside, Grasmere & Keswick. You’ll also access the Langdale Valley and Coniston, and a scenic drive over the Kirkstone Pass, through the Troutbeck Valley drops you down to Ullswater. You'll also enjoy lovely strolls from the doorstep of your Windermere holiday cottage – why not walk to the top of Orrest Head, where the lake views are the same today as the ones that inspired Alfred Wainwright.

The twin towns of Bowness and Windermere are both vibrant, fun-filled places set within the splendid scenery of the Lake District. Both towns provide a range of amenities, shops and restaurants to suit all tastes whilst Ambleside offers the additional attraction of a boat ride to Bowness, the Lakeside Aquarium and Beatrix Potter's 'Hill Top House' at Sawrey. Grizedale Forest Park is within easy driving distance and is home to a range of activities including many good walks, mountain biking and the 'Go Ape' adventure park. The region also boasts many National Trust properties as well as a variety of water sports for those who prefer a more adrenaline-fuelled trip. House itself was generally clean but very dated in some parts. Fridge and freezer extremely noisy, TV x 2 absolutely dreadful, need updating. Basic lack of everyday items usually available eg. salt, oil, cling film, foil, washing up liquid etc. Very poor welcome pack, a complimentary cleaning pack containing a cloth, scourer, 2 bin bags and 5 dishwasher tablets when no dishwasher available. Grubby saucepans had to be scrubbed before use. Grubby sofas, glad we took throws! Not really impressed but would guess lack of interest as it's up for sale. It was a hefty price and would expect better.

The location was excellent for touring around on buses, it was super clean and the beds were very comfortable. We cooked quite a bit and the kitchen contained everything we needed. I can't think of anything that was missing. It was very handy having 2 toilets. There was the small outside space which would be great for a meal outside whenever summer arrives! We would definitely stay there again if we were coming back to the Lakes, There is really no need to choose an alternative. Thank you.

While it wasn’t too much of an issue, the provision of a shower mat for the bath would have been welcome for safety, plus there was a lot of condensation in the bathroom as extractor fan was inadequate. A little confused about the instruction to not take the dog on the park as there were many dogs, often off leads, running around said park. Once again not too much of an issue & certainly didn’t spoil our enjoyment of the cottage
