Dog Friendly Cottages In The United Kingdom

Holiday Cottages in the UK

The UK is a land of contrasts; head away from major cities like London, Birmingham, Liverpool and you'll quickly reach the stunning natural landscapes that characterise places like Cornwall, the Lake District, and Dartmoor. From amazing historic landmarks to exquisite restaurants, there's so much to experience in the UK, and holiday cottages are a great choice if you want accommodation that offers quality and comfort while giving you the freedom to holiday on your own terms.

Picture a cottage and you're perhaps thinking of a cosy little idyll, maybe a traditional terrace or former miner's dwelling. These holiday cottages are great for year-round breaks, and are uniquely British. There are many kinds of UK holiday cottages available, including spacious modern lodges, pet-friendly barn conversions and even holiday cottages boasting their own hot tub or swimming pool – and yes they are normally heated!

What to do on your UK holiday cottage holiday

No matter where you travel to across the length and breadth of Britain, you'll enjoy an unforgettable getaway. Head to the southern tip of the country and you'll find some world-class beaches and a temperate climate. Cornwall boasts some exquisite strips of sand and surfing spots such as at Fistral Beach, or you head a little upwards to North Devon and discover one of the best sandy beaches in Europe, the stunning Woolacombe Beach.

Great beaches aren't unique to Britain, but what marks this island out as special is its long history and the sheer number of fascinating historic landmarks scattered throughout the land. There are great castles all over the place, well over two thousand in Scotland alone! Prime examples include Conwy Castle in Wales, Stirling Castle in Scotland and Bamburgh Castle, located on the coast of Northumberland.

Beyond beaches and castles there's so much more going on, from world-class arts festivals like the Edinburgh Fringe to miles upon miles of hiking trails, cycle paths, and mountains to climb. And what better way to enjoy the country than with a stay in your very own little castle? Check out the selection of great UK holiday cottages, available for all tastes and budgets.

What our customers say about their holidays

  • Steve - Verified booking

Wow just wow a must stay as you won’t be disappointed, it’s like a little heavenly hideaway.

We had a lovely warm welcome from the owners Gillian and Steve on arrival, they are such a lovely couple . The barn in off the beaten track a little so all you hear are the sounds of the birds which is beautiful. Even though the owners live in the house next door(detached) your all private and they are just a text or a door knock away if any issues. The barn is completed to a high standard and full equipped with everything you would possibly need and more, they have thought of everything to make your stay perfect. It was so cosy and lovely for the sun to wake you up in the morning as it rises up through the long thin window running along the barn. You private garden and hot tub is amazing and looking over to fields and trees which you can walk down to a little stream and they have even put a “love seat” down there so you can sit and enjoy, we had a picnic and a bottle of bubbly there was just perfect. We enjoyed a lovely walk up an unmade road to the side of there house , once at the top beautiful views for miles then down the field to “Buzzards” beautiful woodland . Lots of places to visit less than an hour away, but is just ideal to stay at the barn and relax. They even provided a folder full of leaflets of places to visit . It was my birthday while we were there and we came back from our day out to balloons and a bottle of bubbly waiting for us on the door step, such a lovely surprise. I wish we could take this barn with us to stay at all the places we visit, but would definitely book again. 5 stars and more

My husband and I had a wonderful week at Crook Barn.

Two weeks before we set off Gillian got in touch giving us the opportunity to ask questions and to advise us on directions once near the nearest town. Steve took my call the day before to confirm arrival time, both seemed really nice and we couldn’t wait to begin our holiday. They called ahead to say the barn was ready and we could check in slightly early. We were met by both Gillian and Steve and shown the property respecting all Covid restrictions they remained outside, we were blown away , my husband said “ the photographs didn’t do it justice” . The barn was fitted with everything and more we could need, a lovely welcome basket and card. The outside space very private and the wonderful scenery in the garden to be enjoyed whilst in the hot tub at night. We traveled around and was always ready to get back to “ our barn “.Although closely situated near the main house it was very quiet and we’re not disturbed at all. I would highly recommend this property as a holiday destination although we’d quite like to keep it a secret

Perfect does not seem to be enough to summarise our stay, but that's for us what it was.

Crooke Barn is very comfortable and very well equipped with plenty of storage space which is unusual for a rental, this meant limited trips to the supermarket. Located mid Devon makes it perfectly placed to explore the county. The photos do not fully do Crooke Barn justice on its size, that too goes for the extremely comfortable bed. A fully enclosed garden which contained our escaping dogs allowed us to relax and soak up the Devon views either from the hot tub or just sitting outside. Gillian and Steve are fantastic hosts who provided us with loads of local information, oh and a wonderful Afternoon Tea for my wife's birthday. Lots of walks straight from the door but bring your hill legs! Mobile signal is limited but with the Barn's WiFi Skype, FaceTime or WhatsApp are great alternatives. Tiverton is only a short drive away with everything thing you could need. Don't tell too many people as we want to return.

Crooke Barn is in a beautiful position, it is very quiet and peaceful.

The immediate garden is very private and well fenced, so no worries about dogs getting out. There is a very nice walk just down the lane and into Buzzard woods, great for dog walking. The barn itself is very well appointed and very comfortable. The kitchen is very well laid out and lacks for nothing. The owners Steve and Gillian, met us as we arrived, and were very friendly and gave us a tour of the barn and most importantly, instructions on the use of the hot tub!. Steve popped by a day or so later to make sure everything was ok which was much appreciated. There was a welcome pack waiting for us inside as well, coffee, tea, jam, a loaf, scones - all very welcome! Tiverton is very quick to get to, so supermarkets are within easy reach. We had a very restful and enjoyable week.

The Cottage was a perfect place to stay to celebrate my wife’s 60th birthday. It was spacious and beautifully decorated. The welcome pack and a large carton of milk were a nice touch. Family and friends joined us for our stay and were really impressed with the property. The owners have thought of everything to make sure their visitors have a wonderful stay. The cottage is really well located under an archway just off the quayside and is close to shops, cafes and pubs. I was worried parking would be an issue but we parked at Stearman’s Yard long stay car park just 5 mins walk away at a cost of £8.50 for 24 hours. You can get a weekly ticket if staying longer. I would highly recommend this cottage in the beautiful town of Wells-Next-The-Sea.
