About this property

Perched in the pretty village of Cockfield in Durham, is this idyllic two-bedroom cottage, Church View Cottage. Named after its picturesque views looking across to St Marys Church and enjoying a fabulous location on the outskirts of the North Pennines AONB, Church View Cottage is a superb pet-friendly dwelling for couples or a family of four. Look forward to cooking up a storm in the well-equipped kitchen/diner, where you can tuck-in to a delicious meal at the dining table for four as you recount the days adventures. After dinner, why not soak up the last of the day’s rays out in the rear, enclosed garden? As the evening grows dark, retire to the sitting room, where you can snuggle up on the plush seating in front of a much-loved show on the TV. Climb the stairs up to the first floor, where you can wash away the day with a soak in the bath or freshen up under the overhead shower. When your eyes grow heavy, retreat to one two well-presented bedrooms, a double and a twin, to catch your rest. Explore the local village, where you can dine out at The Queens Head, order in from Taste of China, or stock up on essentials at the well-stocked convenience store. Be sure to visit nearby Staindrop, home to the magnificent Raby Castle Park and Gardens, complete with deer park, along with the eateries of The Wheatsheaf Inn and The Country Tea Shop & Restaurant. Continue on to Bishop Auckland, where you can tour the Auckland Castle and Deer House, test out your swing at the excellent golf club, or delve into history at the Bishop Auckland People’s Museum. Further afield, you will find Durham, with its remarkable cathedral, Crook Hall and Gardens and impressive castle. There is so much to see and do with a stay at Church View Cottage.

Teesdale, County Durham, is home to this picturesque community. The small community has all you need, including a few stores, a pub, and a number of takeout restaurants. Raby Castle, with its beautiful deer park and priceless antiques, is conveniently located near the town. Barnard Castle, a market town not far away, is home to a variety of services and attractions, including as the Bowes Museum, Egglestone Abbey, and the ruins of a mediaeval castle. Bishop Auckland is only a short drive away, and a little farther on you'll find the magnificent city of Durham, home to the Romanesque Durham Cathedral and the Norman Durham Castle. The North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is only a few minutes away, and it features miles of walking pathways across breathtaking countryside. The charming town of Cockfield should serve as an excellent home base from which to discover the rest of Durham.

It is well situated on the edge of the village with picturesque countryside all around. Lots to see and do locally, but if you don’t mind a little driving, Beamish, Eden Camp and Whitby are a good day out.

The cottage had plenty of cleaning materials (washing up liquid, hand soap etc). Beds were very comfortable. The well-stocked co op was just a short walk away. Church View cottage was in a perfect location for seeing many of the attractions in the area. We would be very happy to stay there again.
