About this property

Set within the centre of Wolsingham, a delightful town in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Durham, is this stone-built property, Lavender Cottage. Well-positioned near an array of everyday essentials, and just a stone's throw away from nature-filled attractions, the cottage is an ideal base for a family, sleeping up to three guests and one well-behaved dog. Parking up on the roadside, venture into the characterful property, displaying original beams and traditional furnishings. Arriving in the living/dining room, you'll be welcomed by a woodburning stove, perfect to light on those colder nights, along with a TV and DVD player to keep the entire family entertained. Moving through to the kitchen, prepare your meals and keep on top of your laundry, with all the expected appliances, before setting the table and enjoying a homecooked meal. Discover the garden to the rear of Lavender Cottage, private and secluded with large conifer borders, away from the hustle and bustle of the town. The homestyle interior continues on the first floor, where you'll find two charming bedrooms, both with private en-suite bathrooms, easing your morning routines; a double and a single room will be available, offering somewhere for the entire family to rest and refresh. Beyond your home-from-home you will find a mix of amenities to benefit from, including evening meals at Buon Appetito, and your favourite tipple at the inviting Black Bull pub, whilst your self-catering needs can be fulfilled at the SPAR. If you're a lover of the outdoors, you'll have plenty of walking trails and areas to explore, including Hamsterley Forest, Broom House Farm Forest Adventure and Spurlswood beck waterfall. Those with an interest in history will enjoy tours of Brancepeth Castle, Durham's Oriental Museum, and immersive exhibits at the Head of Steam Darlington Railway Museum. Raby Castle Park and Gardens, Auckland Castle Deer House, and Tees Valley Railway Walk all display the stunning landscapes within the county, from manicured gardens to ever-growing woodlands. Make Lavender Cottage your home for a memorable trip to Durham.

In the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the charming village of Wolsingham is a very British market town. The village is a popular stop-off site for travellers, nestled in the lovely valley of Weardale. There are several well-known pubs, cafes, and restaurants in the town, as well as convenience stores and takeaways. An indoor swimming pool and gym, a lawn bowls club, many picnic places, and a leisure site with an outdoor gym and playing fields are also available in the town. A Post Office, library, bank, gift and antique shops, grocery stores, bakery, butchers, and greengrocers are among the town's many services. In addition, all the big supermarkets deliver here.

Excellent communication with owner. In a great location for exploring Weardale and Durham.

The village of Wolsingham is great as a base for exploring the locale and Lavender Cottage is but a short walk away from all the amenities, local store, takeaways, coffee shop, etc. Our venerable Miniature Schnauzer also enjoyed her stay and particularly liked the doggy treats that were available. We cannot recommend this cottage highly enough!
