Nestled just a stone’s throw from the bustling quayside, this a perfect retreat for families and couples alike, plus two dogs. Explore the rugged coastline dotted with beaches, coves and pretty harbour villages along the South West Coast Path, before returning to enjoy the character and period charm of this cottage. Here, contemporary creature comforts sit harmoniously against the traditional backdrop of flagstone floors and exposed brickwork and beams.

Compact and cosy, a palette of neutral creams gives the impression of space, with splashes of bright colour here and there adding homely touches. After a busy day exploring, cook up a storm in the charming little kitchen and then relax on the sofa with a book and a glass of wine, warming your toes in front of the roaring wood burner. On warm evenings catch the last of the daylight with an al fresco meal on the decked balcony which is accessed from the bunk room. Retreat for a good nights sleep in the tranquil bedrooms up a set of cottage-style stairs, recharging the batteries for another day of fun.

The pretty fishing village of Appledore has a variety of shops, galleries, family pubs and restaurants. Follow the South West Coast Path to the beaches at Westward Ho! (2.5 miles) Peppercombe (8 miles) and Saunton Sands (17.5 miles). Kids will love The Milky Way Adventure Park (11 miles) and The Big Sheep (4 miles). Young and old can get hearts pumping at Ivyleaf Paintball (25 miles) and The Ultimate Adventure Centre (4 miles). For numerous water sports, try the North Devon Surf School (2.5 miles), Coastal Adventures (21 miles) and H2Outdoor (22 miles).
