A small market town in North Dorset's Blackmore Vale with shops, inns, restaurants, and a direct rail link from London to the West Country. The Old Town Bridge by John Constable hangs in the Tate Gallery. The Blackmore Vale, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is part of the Stour Valley, which Thomas Hardy described in Tess of the D'Urbervilles as a 'patchwork quilt' of fields. The area has many pretty rural walks and National Trust properties and historic houses, such as Stourhead, Longleat, and Wilton. The Dorset Heritage Coast is also easily accessible.
