About this property

Located in Lower Wraxall, and situated in the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Kittwhistle cottage forms part of a beautifully restored former dairy on an organic family farm. Visitors can enjoy the peaceful gardens and boardwalk through beautiful woodland along a river. The entire site and accommodation is accessible to disabled visitors.

Kittwhistle has been transformed into a stylish holiday home, designed as a peaceful retreat for families including guests with disabilities. In total there are five cottages surrounding a pretty shared courtyard garden, which has been thoughtfully designed to provide peace and privacy for guests. The original farmyard and barn have been restored and there are often farm animals around for guests to pet or feed. From the courtyard there is a beautiful route out through farmland down to the riverbank situated in a Site of Nature Conservation Interest, perfect for a peaceful picnic and enjoyment of the beautiful landscape and wildlife. All of this is accessible via a wheelchair-accessible boardwalk.

Kittwhistle Cottage has a generous open-plan living area with a well-equipped kitchen with rise and fall worktops and accessible cupboards and appliances. There is a comfortable sitting area with television, and also a dining area with table, bench and chairs. The high ceilings with exposed trusses give a spacious feel to the beautifully designed interior. There are two bedrooms; a 5' king-size master, and a twin bedroom with two 3' profiling beds. The large accessible wet room has an overhead and adjustable shower, wash basin and WC with support rails.

Outside is a small terrace with garden table, bench and chairs overlooking the pretty courtyard garden. Kittwhistle Cottage forms part of Wraxall Yard. There are four further accessible cottages of Ladymeade, Lynchets, Clementine and Lookout that can be booked for groups of friends or family, and there is a large shared room and kitchen for lunchtime or evening gatherings which can be booked separately, subject to availability, if three or more of the cottages are booked together. Given the peaceful nature of the site, it is not designed for rowdy parties!

The village sits around a small chalk stream and features a Grade I listed building, St Mary’s Church. There is a long and rich history of farming in Lower Wraxall and archaeological evidence of mediaeval farms can still be seen today. The wider area has wonderful attractions, whatever your interests.

We stayed there in an emergency as out orginal property we had booked had cancelled last minute. We lucked out. It is beautifully put together in a stunning location, and our hosts were helpful and friendly. Katie took us on an evening nature walk around the site, which included listening for and seeing bats. The accommodation was dog friendly and incredibly comfortable. Will definitely be staying again!

What a beautiful cottage, everything was there that we needed, one of us was wheelchair bound and needed a profiling bed which was in the twin bedded room, perfect for us, we took a mobile hoist and as the cottage was so roomy we had no problems using this, we met the owner who was charming and said we could of contacted him as one of the cottages does have a hoist in it but we were not aware of this, so if one of your party needs one its there. HIGHLY SUITABLE FOR DISABLED VISITORS. So much to see in the local area perfect base for the south. Thank you very much :)
