About this property

Resting with the bustling, coastal town of Whitby, North Yorkshire is Base Camp, a well-presented, ground-floor apartment. Just paces away from a hub of shops, restaurants, the beach, and attractions, whilst a short journey away from the delights of the North York Moors National Park, Base Camp offers a well-positioned abode for a self-catered stay, inviting four guests. Park up and unload your personal belongings, making yourself at home in this welcoming dwelling. Head indoors to reach the spacious, light-flooded, open-plan living space, where you can lounge upon the plush sofas, prepare delectable meals in the well-equipped kitchen, and dine as a group; if you'd prefer to bask in your surroundings a little longer, set the patio table and dine alfresco, before making the most of the shared, lawned garden. As the sky darkens, catch some rest in either of the double bedrooms, both well-appointed and complete with ample storage, before awakening to a refreshing shower or a long soak. Kickstart your itinerary in the local area, strolling across the sea front, stocking up on the essentials, enjoying delicious fish and chips, or making reservations for a nearby eatery, including The Marine Bar & Restaurant, and Rusty Shears. Be sure to brush up on your local knowledge at the Whitby Museum, take to the water for an afternoon of whale watching, or follow the North Yorkshire and Cleveland Heritage Coast walking trail, before climbing the 199 Steps offering picturesque views across the town and River Esk. Travel south to discover Robin Hood's Bay Beach, along with a selection of amenities, including The Cove café bar, and the Smugglers Ale House, easing your self-catered stay. Continue to the popular resort of Scarborough, with plenty of attractions to fill your getaway, with the chance to tour the remains of Scarborough Castle, visit the SEA LIFE Scarborough, stroll along Scarborough beach, enjoy an afternoon of watersports at Alpamare UK, or grab your walking boots for a hike across Cleveland Way. Gather your loved ones at Base Camp.

At the mouth of the River Esk in North Yorkshire's Scarborough region sits the seaside town and port of Whitby. The area is perfectly positioned for visiting this stunning region of Yorkshire, and it offers a wide range of activities so you can make the most of both the countryside and the seaside. There is something for everyone in this area, from the adjacent North York Moors to its Blue Flag beaches. Among its many attractions, Whitby has a beautiful ambience with meandering streets and obscure alleys that are home to a variety of restaurants and businesses. Visit the charming harbour and lighthouse to watch the sun go down, or go whale watching or on a coastal cruise to see the wildlife up close. To immerse yourself in history, ascend the 199 steps to Whitby Abbey or go to the Captain Cook Memorial Museum, which features a historical and anthropological display about Cook himself.

It took over half an hour to find as Sykes had got the building name wrong ( is called ESKHOLME not Escholb) The steps down to the property are dark and badly maintained making them feel dangerous. The only sign ( base camp) is 10 feet below ground level so cannot be seen from the road. Parking is horrendous so unloading the car was very difficult and the 'private terrace' is actually a large shared garden which is used by permanent residents and their 3 shitzhu dogs and a rottweiler. As the windows don't open you have to open the door to let air in .. and all the dogs kept dashing in and going for our 2 elderly dogs, and my husband got bit trying to shoo them out. Worth considering if you are holidaying with children, also the neighbours are loud and use the f word as punctuation! The property itself though is stunning and has everything you could possibly need. Great bathroom, well equipped kitchen and good WiFi.

Key safe a bit tricky Stairs down to flat could do with some lighting. Parking available on street but sometimes you have to search for it.
