Moving through the property you will find a well-equipped kitchen, housing everything you could possibly need to cater your own delicious evening meals, including an electric oven and hob, a microwave and a dishwasher and a washing machine. If you don’t feel like cooking one evening, venture into the village centre where you will be delighted to find the Slanj Restaurant in a converted church and the Tarbet Hotel has a variety of restaurants to suit all ages and tastes, whilst Tarbet Tea Room offers simple snacks and great home-baking. For a larger selection of amenities, venture slightly further to Arrochar and choose to dine at The Village Inn which enjoys a superb position on the lochside or Ben Arthur’s Bothy is a popular choice with the locals. To explore the area further, hop onto a Cruise Loch Lomond which runs regularly from the pier at Tarbet to Inversnaid and Rowardennan for access to The West Highland Way or to climb Ben Lomond. For those feeling active, you can hire bikes from the pier to explore the surroundings further or walk the majestic peaks of The Cobbler, Ben Vane and Ben Ime, which form the Arrochar Alps, dominating the surrounding area. Glencoe, Oban, Fort William, Dunoon, Inveraray, Dunoon, Lochgilphead, Stirling, Edinburgh and Glasgow are all within a few hours’ easy drive of Tarbet, and it also benefits from having a railway station situated within close reach of the cottage if you want to have a break from driving! The village of Arrochar lies at the head of Loch Long, the most northerly point in the network of lochs that extend north from the Clyde Estuary. Surrounded by mountains, the area has become a focal point for climbers wishing to climb Ben Arthur, affectionately known as the Cobbler and other popular mountains in the immediate area, which all lie within the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. Arrochar itself offers a large selection of shops, restaurants and pubs and is situated just a mile and a half to the west of the Loch Lomondside village of Tarbet, with both villages sharing a railway station that lies near the high point of the valley connecting the two. Loch Lomond, the single biggest expanse of inland water in Britain offers a variety of activities. Enjoy a gentle stroll through the Balloch Castle Country Park or the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park, which will guide you past attractive lochside villages and sandy bays, or, for the more adventurous, the mountains offer challenging walks and climbs. For a family day out the nearby town of Helensburgh, with its broad avenues, is well worth a visit.
