Drumbeg 1 mile. Tucked away at the end of a country road near Drumbeg in the Highlands, An Nead is a hidden gem and is the perfect location for a memorable family holiday. This simply outstanding log cabin has been specifically designed to maximise its guests’ experience of the great outdoors and the panoramic views alone make it worth a visit. The term ‘log cabin’ belies the style and elegance that is contained within so it is a lovely surprise for visitors when they enter the property and see for themselves the warm welcome that awaits. The open-plan sitting and dining room has been tastefully presented and a delightful seating area overlooks those stunning views with a TV and a woodburning stove completing the space, making it the perfect setting for sociable evenings with loved ones. The superbly appointed kitchen contains everything for whipping up some gorgeous food to ensure that you make the most of the beautiful fresh produce available locally. A huge dining table provides a real focal point to the dining area and you can easily imagine the clink of glasses and long, relaxing meals around this table. Fabulous patio doors help to bring the space outdoors and the flow of the property continues with the opportunity to enjoy some time alfresco on the wrap-around decking taking in those gorgeous views, chilling out in the seating area, gathering around the fire pit and having a late-night barbecue or even plunging into the attractive hot tub. When bedtime calls, the surprises continue with a simply stunning king-size master bedroom complete with a four-poster bed! Feature windows help to maximise the views towards Quinag Mountain which can be seen from the bed, making it the perfect place for waking up and making the most of the impressive views. The snug children’s bunk beds are a really cool space and there is also an elegant twin bedroom. There are so many ways to fill your time at An Nead there will never be a dull moment with trout fishing as well as hill and mountain walking and beaches, coves and caves aplenty to find and explore. Take a scenic drive along the Drumbeg Loop (taking care on the hair pin bends); it’s worth it though because the views are spectacular. Pay a visit to Kylesku Bridge, a real photo opportunity and from here it’s only a short drive to the gorgeous Kylesku Hotel, renowned in the area for its great food. An enjoyable day trip while you are in the area is Handa Island which has a fantastic nature reserve home to one of the largest seabird breeding colonies in north west Europe. The busy fishing port of Lochinver is definitely worth a visit with a visitor centre and a number of beautiful beaches and waterfalls to discover on the way. For a family holiday hideaway with a difference, An Nead is the perfect destination.
The pretty village of Drumbeg is located about half way along the Lochinver to Kylesku B869 coast road, an area of dramatic natural beauty and wonderful sea views. The village itself boasts some local services including a village shop and a hotel with lively pub and restaurant. Drumbeg village can be approached from two directions either via the coastal road leading up from Lochinver or by the very pretty and winding road branching off from the A89. In addition to the spectacular coastline the area has magnificent mountains, fantastic wildlife and numerous fishing lochs which provide wild brown trout fly fishing. Permits can be obtained locally from the hotel for as little as £5 per day. The much larger village of Lochinver is 14 miles away and has a grocery shop, restaurants and hotels. A superb touring base.
