For dogs who really need to get out and about, the Pennines are virtually on your doorstep and are packed with scents to explore, and the chance for some off-the-lead walkies.
If you’re looking for somewhere to eat, and where your pooch is as welcome as you are, you’ll find some superb pubs close to our dog-friendly cottages in Oldham. The Church Inn cheerfully welcomes dogs on a chalkboard outside. Inside, you’ll find your pup is made a fuss of and you can even ask for a bowl of water while you order your own liquid refreshment. Similarly, the Gate Inn allows well-behaved dogs in the bar and offers excellent, gastropub-standard food. There are live music nights if your four-legged friend feels like a boogie!
With Manchester just half an hour’s drive away, there’s no excuse not to explore one of the UK’s most ‘paw-some’ cities! If you’ve got the munchies, head to Tariff Street, where you’ll find a series of dog-centric cafés and bars, such as Kosmonaut, Pen & Pencil, and The Whiskey Jar.

Dove Stone Reservoir
If your four-pawed pal needs to cut loose, the Dove Stone Reservoir is the place to go. Set on the edge of the outstanding Saddleworth Moors, there’s plenty of room for an off-lead romp. Watch out for fields holding sheep and keep an eye out for cycle-paths.
Those taking a break with the whole family will find Daisy Nook an easy place to spend an afternoon. There are play areas for the kids, fishing opportunities, and more than 40 hectares of woodlands, pastures and wetlands to explore. Packed with Mother Nature’s perfumes, it’s the perfect place for the out-and-about snout!
Just 15 minutes’ drive from the centre of Oldham, Strinesdale Reservoir offers walks that are sure to get even the droopiest of tails up and wagging! There’s plenty of opportunities to spot the wildlife that has made its home in the 50 acres of woodlands and meadows.
