The city of Carlisle is also reachable by car, dotted with attractions alongside River Eden, including its grand Cathedral, Carlisle Castle and Gardens, Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery, and Upperby Park, not to mention the world famous Hadrian's Wall. Kirkoswald, a charming rural village in the Eden Valley, is well located for exploring the North Pennines and the Lake District, two areas of outstanding natural beauty. A 12th-century church, two top-notch pubs offering high-quality food, a store, and a post office are all located in Kirkoswald. The area is well-known for walking, cycling, canoeing, hiking, and excellent salmon, and trout fishing along the neighbouring River Eden. There are literally miles of beautiful walkways that follow the course of the river and provide inviting areas for picnics and sightseeing. Expect gorges and caves throughout the trip and keep an eye out for the ten unique benchmark sculptures.
