Hazelbank is a stunning family home in an equally stunning location, St Catherines, just outside Strachur, on the shores of Loch Fyne. Sleeping ten people, it is a very special place, beautifully and thoughtfully decorated and seamlessly blends the charm of an old house with contemporary elegance. It is the perfect place to rest and relax, all of the bedrooms have the comfiest beds and are all extremely tranquil spaces. Every room has a stunning view, you will find yourself catching your breath as you look through all of the windows. Prepare to exclaim a series of ’wows’ as you explore the house, garden, and your own private pier on the beach. Perfect for that special birthday or celebration, bring your family and friends together and still find spaces for solitude, it’s simply perfect for spending quality time with your favourite people.
Not only is the house fabulous, but the garden is also a place of wonder, enter via electronic gates, there is parking for up to eight cars in the circular driveway as well as an array of gorgeous mature trees and plants and delightful and comfortable places to sit. The colours throughout the year are magnificent and Loch Fyne is just a stone’s throw from the front door, enjoy your morning coffee looking over at Inverary and the ever-changing colours of the landscape beyond. Just across the single-track road is a path to your own private beach, complete with a wonderful pier area with seating, a barbecue, a table, and a firepit perfect for an al fresco meal and it’s a must for cocktails, sunbathing and watching the sunset. Hazelbank is also the ideal location for exploring all that Argyll has to offer, lots of wonderful restaurants, family adventures and day trips to the islands. If an early morning swim is your thing you won’t have to go far from your bed, bring your kayak and paddle board too, all popular sports on the loch.

We arrived at the property on Friday, 20th June 2025.On our way, we had to contact someone to obtain the lockbox code, as we hadn’t received it in advance. While this was resolved fairly quickly, it was a bit stressful at the time.Upon arrival, we began unpacking and storing food for the week. After a couple of hours, we realised that the large Smeg fridge in the kitchen was not holding its temperature. I contacted Amanda, who was very helpful and arranged for an additional under-counter fridge, which arrived on Monday. This was a big help, although we remained cautious about using the Smeg fridge throughout our stay.The welcome pack was excellent, and the kitchen was well equipped, though we found it quite small given the number of guests the house accommodates, and there was limited worktop space.There were a few other points I’d like to mention—not to complain, as they didn’t spoil our holiday, but I believe they’re worth addressing:Cleaning: There were quite a few dead flies on the window ledges and around the window seat. Cobwebs were visible inside the windows, and a message saying "Welkom" had been written in the condensation on the main bedroom window.We also noticed a number of millipedes in the toilet by the back door and in the dining room.Access: The front door was difficult to open, and we were concerned we might not be able to re-enter the property, especially in an emergency. As a precaution, we always took the back door key with us to avoid being locked out. This raised concerns about safe exit in case of evacuation.Bedroom layout: The bedroom at the end of the house, located behind the master bedroom, is only accessible by walking through the master bedroom, even when passing through the bathroom and dressing room. This layout makes the room impractical for use unless guests are comfortable with others walking through their private space. This really should be included in the property details.Electronic gates: These proved to be a bit of a burden as we had three cars, and each time someone arrived or left, another person had to operate the controls. The lockbox containing the gate fob was awkward to access, which added to the inconvenience.Despite these issues, we had a very enjoyable stay, and I want to say that Amanda couldn’t have been more helpful throughout our time there.I’ve taken a few photos documenting some of the points above—please let me know if you’d like me to share them.
