Pooch-friendly attractions in Lincolnshire

Skegness Beach

Location: Skegness
Best for: A day at the seaside

Skegness is a seaside town sitting on the coastline with views out across the North Sea. The sandy Skegness Beach - which is open to dogs from October to April - stretches for around two miles from the pier and is great for walkies, playing fetch or paddling in the sea. Children can enjoy donkey rides along the beach, watersports or a host of fun family activities in the town.

Dog-friendly pit stop: The Boating Lake Cafe welcomes dogs inside and out, and serves award-winning fish and chips, ice cream and drinks.

Lincolnshire Wolds

Location: Louth
Best for: Walking, cycling and exploring

Explore the Lincolnshire Wolds - an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - on foot or by bike. Follow the meandering chalk streams, take in the magical views of the rolling hills and discover its hidden valleys. Alternatively, take in the views from the comfort of a dog-friendly carriage on the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway.

Dog-friendly pit stop: The King's Head in Tealby, on the western edge of the Wolds, is a cosy pub in a quaint thatched cottage that welcomes dogs.

Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre

Location: Spilsby
Best for: Learning about World War Two

Take a ride in a Lancaster Bomber and explore the World War Two airfield at Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre. The family-run museum, in Spilsby, is home to famous aircraft and wartime vehicles. Dogs are welcome throughout the museum but cannot enter the restaurant.

Dog-friendly pit stop: Enjoy a pint and warm lunch in front of a roaring fire at the dog-friendly Nelson Butt pub.

Hartsholme Country Park

The park boasts a visitor centre, children's play area and cafe, and welcomes dogs on leads all year round. Follow one of the bicycle routes or walking trails and be sure to bring your binoculars to see what wildlife you can spot.

What our customers say about their holidays

  • Leanne - Verified booking

This is a lovely cottage, there are good aspects of it, some excellent but also some not so good.

It is beautiful to look at, well positioned and in a great location. Everything we needed was close by. Like another review, we also had difficulty getting in when we arrived and as it was raining hard it was annoying. The key safe box is really stiff and trying to get the gate open was awkward only to realise the lock doesn't catch so it wasn't locked anyway! The rooms are well laid out, the kitchen is extremely well equipped, lovely big fridge, big enough freezer. T-towels, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid the list of what is provided for goes on. And the welcome box was a lovely bonus. Lounge was great, very relaxing, cozy with two dogs but other than sit and watch TV with a cuppa or G&T what else do you need. We found the house a bit chilly and felt damp on arrival but maybe had been empty previous to us being there, put the heating on and warmed up eventually. Upstairs, lovely big bedroom (we didn't use the other one), bed really comfy. We couldn't get the TV to work upstairs as there wasn't a signal which was a bit odd. There were a couple of not so good bits, the bathroom tiles were a bit grim with black mould in the grouting, you can actually see it in the photos but don't realise until you get in the shower. The bathroom blind broke and had to stay down for our stay. The most disappointing bit is the outside, the enclosed garden is just the courtyard, we had expected as it was dog friendly that we would have a grass area where we could let the dogs into and as ours won't "go" on the patio we had to take them out on leads to the front for their toilets. I should have realised when I read the listing so I take responsibility for this but just offering as a warning to others if they have fussy dogs. I didn't like the view from the courtyard which is of a rough old bit of land looking at a run down building with broken windows, a higher fence or something would take the edge of that eyesore.

Lovely property, great host and a lovely welcome.

Kitchen had everything I needed to cook and clean up with fab views across the fen. Comfy sofas and cosy cottage vibes with lots of space for us 2. Good size fridge freezer and dish washer. Clear welcome information. The neighbours are close but very quiet. Very much appreciated the welcome pack (especially as I hadn't packed any tassimo pods). There were a couple of issues Ian flagged on arrival but they didn't cause us any problem and Ian was very efficient fixing what he could. If you are bothered by light when you sleep you might want to bring an eyemask or use one of the baby blackout blinds on the bedroom windows as the sun will shine in as Lincolnshire lives up to its reputation of big skies. Location wise it is on a main road but not a lot of road noise. Good size driveway. Not far from Louth which is good for shopping with excellent butchers, bakers and green grocers with local produce. It is not far to the sea. Sutton on Sea is lovely and we picked up every thing needed for a picnic at the near by Sandilands, with good access to the promenade and beach (recently come under national trust and had 2 hours free parking for all- members can get a ticket for free until March 2025 from the snack van- great toilets and accessible facilities if you have a blue badge. Lincoln is just under an hour across the Wolds. Hope to visit again when next in the area.

We were given a warm welcome when we arrived, and there was cake and biscuits waiting for us!

The property is accessed down a colourful driveway and there is space to turn and reverse park in the space provided. Outside is an enclosed small sitting out area, which we used as the weather was quite good. Inside there are 2 settees with TV and Dvd (and drawer full of films) player. There was also Netflix! A new sleigh bed had very recently been purchased, we found it very comfortable. There was plenty of storage space. Note: the ceilings are all very low (my partner is 6'3) so had to be careful not to bump his head! The kitchen had all the usual amenities and a large fridge freezer. There were plenty of towels in the bathroom. Out and about, we found all the locals to be really friendly and chatty in the local pubs. If you like real ales then the 8 Sail Brewery bar is a must and is really cheap!! The Nags Head was so welcoming that we visited for the England matches. Great atmosphere. We never actually ate at the Royal Oak, but the reviews are good, especially for Sunday lunch. There are 4 good takeaways in the village, or food can be delivered to the property from Sleaford. We used the property as a base for cycling and the roads are really quiet. Though the road surface sometimes wasn't great. We would stay here again.

Enjoyed our stay at the old Rectory, decorated to a high standard and in a great location.

It took a short while to work out how to get in (through the gate and two locks on the kitchen door) and when it snowed/rained it was a bit squelchy underfoot near the gate. Large comfortable sofas, just a tad too low for our old knees! Bed very comfortable indeed and the shower worked very well. Constantly having to straighten the lounge rug under the coffee table, it wrinkled at the slightest movement. The welcome box had some great things in it, much appreciated. The heating worked very well with a Nest thermostat in the kitchen which mostly tracked our needs. We mostly ate out but cooked a little on the very large complicated range which we never found the instructions for but managed to work out. The wifi was mostly reliable although we noticed it restarted a couple of times during our stay. The cottage yard was very dog friendly and no doubt is a lovely suntrap in the summer months.

The property is in a great location in the village and has most of the things that you need.

We travelled to surrounding towns of Boston, Spalding, King's Lynn and Sleaford. As keen walkers we went out and about on foot a couple of times but we couldn't really find any footpaths and ended up walking mainly on small country lanes, I would recommend that the owners purchase a ordnance survey map for the local area and put it with the rest of local information. As for eating and drinking in the local area we called in at the Golden Windmill in Helpingham, which was ok, the Royal Oak in Heckington that was nice and the food looked good, although we didn't eat there and the Windmill Brewery in Heckington that serves its own real ales, imported larger and a selection of wines, well worth a visit. We also had a lovely Thai meal in Sleaford that we easily accessible by train as there is a convenient station in Heckington.
