What our customers say about their holidays

An absolutely lovely stay, thank you.
We thoroughly appreciated the back story to the mansion and the great care taken in all the planning, design and maintenance of both the outside and inside including the beautiful main hall area. A great location for travel around the peninsula and into the western, central and northern lake districts; peaceful; and nearby shops within 10mins walking distance added to make our fortnight stay easy and relaxing. Thank you for the outdoor games too and getting more badminton nets. The means to chill outdoors as if in one's back garden really enhanced the whole experience. We thoroughly recommend it as a place to stay and wonder what all the other apartments are like! Some things perhaps to think about for enhancement might include: -check the cupboard light sensor in the bedroom with access to the outside. It wouldn't turn off or stay off, and we resorted to switching it off at the fuse box. Also, same bedroom, one of the bulbs in the ceiling light wouldn't turn off. -the sauce pans seem to leak water sometime after they've been washed and put back in the drawer. -perhaps reconsider the bedside light shade choices in the master bedroom as they're quite a glare. -the freezer is unfixed in the side and so pushes back, sometimes meaning the door doesn't shut fully unless you make a point of checking. -the fridge door may also need a check as that sometimes seems to not close easily even when it's been checked that no contents are preventing the door from closing well. That's all one can think of now. Minor things and none detracted from the enjoyment of our stay. (Please feel free to publish the first paragraph above and keep the enhancements list private.)

The cottage was in a lovely location with great amenities close by and within easy access to the National Park.
The locals were very welcoming and we ate at the 3 local establishments and walked to a food fayre at Holker Hall just a 5 minutes walk away. The cottage itself was comfortable enough in most respects but my friend and I both felt our beds to be uncomfortable. The lack of somewhere to hang coats and walking straight into the lounge from the front door onto a cream carpet is a recipe for disaster. Luckily for us it was beautiful weather but I would suggest it would be difficult with dogs if the weather was wet. The nice touch of providing provisions on arrival including dog biscuits and home made cakes with a welcoming card was very pleasant. It is stated that dogs are welcome in the cottage but nowhere does it state until on arrival that they must be locked in the kitchen overnight. Therefore, I would question whether they are actually really welcome! The weather was stunning for our visit to Cumbria and overall it was a very enjoyable experience. I am now hoping that I will not be hounded by Sykes cottages as I was last year trying to encourage me to book my next year's holiday. I appreciate the need for proactive marketing but it bordered on the ridiculous last year and did make me think twice about booking through them again and is the reason for the lower recommendation score.

A beautiful building in a good location.
A 5 minute walk to the Aldi and Marks and Spencer supermarkets. Rowley suite is well equipped. We explored the lakes as far as buttermere and enjoyed some breathtaking walks and scenery. Rowley suite is looking a little tired and really could do with a new rug and scatter cushions in the lounge area as the current ones are shabby. New pillows, duvet and particularly bath towels need replacing as very worn. The reed diffuser in the entrance lobby was bone dry and had not been refilled, which is a shame as Wax Lyrical is only a couple of miles up the road and prices so very affordable. The biggest let down unfortunately was the noise coming from above Rowley suite. It was so bad that we convinced ourselves there must be workmen carrying out repairs or renovating the above accommodation. I did contact the owner of the problem and I believe Mike spoke to the family above and asked them to stop it but unfortunately the problem only became worse over our week stay causing a real noise pollution. We made the most of our time exploring what the lake district has to offer but unfortunately it is with a heavy heart that we wouldn't return due to the disturbance of unacceptable noise. We wish Mike and his team continued success. Many thanks.

I have been to this property on previous occasions and hope to go again.
It is ideal for our requirements. The walks are good for the dogs. The neighbouring natives are friendly and welcoming - as is the owner! A personal observation: on my penultimate evening the lounge light blew. When I checked the fuse box, all the other fuses blew, so there was no power. I could not get a signal on my mobile 'phone, so tried to contact your agents from the nearest Call-box - a spider's nest in Kent's Bank. The first number I dialled did not take calls; the second one gave me a number for emergencies; ninety minutes later, when I had run out of cash, I gave up - 'though I had been assured frequently that my call was extremely important to you. I left a note in the kitchen for the owner who, with local help, managed to fix the problem before the next guests arrived. The owner has been extremely helpful and understanding. I would not wish any other client of yours to have a similar experience Thank you. The following question - "at your discretion."

We stayed at 8 Woodlands.
There was space for one car towards the front of the lodge due to leaving space for the lodge to the back of 8 Woodlands. Enough space though so all was ok. The lodge had everything in terms of cutlery, plates, pans, trays and bin bags. Was a very nice touch to have some coffee, tea and milk sachets on arrival along with washing up liquid, tea towel and toilet roll. Plenty of towels were provided for our weeks stay. We were impressed with the lodge itself and the grounds. Close to the lake for a morning stroll with the dog which was just over the main road at the bottom. Everything else was a driveable distance, 15 mins to Coniston, 30 mins to Bowness or Ambleside. The only downfall was the main bed. One side dipped making it uncomfortable to the point of feeling you were to fall out of bed when turning over. Wasn't great for the back really however I survived and made do. All in all loved our holiday and would stay again but a different lodge due to the bed
