Dog Friendly Cottages In Sheringham

Your dog will love a cottage holiday in Sheringham

Once a simple fishing village, Sheringham has blossomed into a popular holiday hotspot while still retaining much of its original character. Book one of our dog-friendly cottages in Sheringham and you and your pooch will have access to some of the UK’s best beaches and breath-taking scenery right on your doorstep. Why go through all the stress of sending your four-legged friend off to a kennel when he can come with you?

If you’re looking for a family-friendly beach where your pooch is as welcome as you are, you won’t have far to travel from our dog-friendly cottages in Sheringham. For bracing walks, fireside drinks and cosy evenings, book your break between September and May when Sheringham Beach is open for dogs to run off the leash. Those looking for the summer sun will have to travel slightly further afield; Cley Beach is just 15 minutes away and there are no summer restrictions for dog owners.

You’ll find some fantastic pubs, cafés and restaurants that welcome dogs and their owners. The Lobster Pub is a proper beers-and-beams, old-school watering hole, where you can enjoy home-cooked food and a quiet drink. Dogs are welcome and there are doggie treats behind the bar. For a post-walk lunch, it doesn’t get much better than the Whelk Coppers café, where you can enjoy homemade sausage rolls, sandwiches and cakes. There are towels outside for mucky pups and well-behaved dogs are sneaked treats by the attentive staff.

Dog-friendly things to do

Sheringham makes an excellent base from which to explore the sights and sounds (and scents) of North Norfolk. You’ll find outstanding walks, historic buildings and some fantastic scenery. For those who’ve never been before, we’ve put together a few of our favourite dog-friendly attractions:

Holt Country Park

Less than 20 minutes’ drive from Sheringham, Holt Country Park is a superb place for some off-the-leash romps. With pine forests and designated dog walks, it’s an easy way to spend a day with the whole family. Be aware that there are wild ponies and other free-roaming livestock, so you may need to pop the lead on occasionally.

Sheringham Park

Sheringham Park is ideal for those who want to combine a walk with the best of British scenery. There are almost 1000 acres to explore, so you might find you keep coming back! With exceptional views of the North Norfolk Coast, this is the fastest way to slow down.

Holkham Hall

An impressive stately home, you’ll find Holkham Hall about 45 minutes from Sheringham. With expansive woodlands and a nearby beach, it’s a great day out for the whole family. Be aware that your dog will need to be on a lead in certain parts of the grounds.

What our customers say about their holidays

“We stayed over Christmas. The owners provided a decorated and lit tree - a lovely personal touch. The layout is quirky, but in a good way. A very spacious kitchen-diner is great for breakfasts, although there's a bigger dining room next door. There's also a roomy shower room (the shower would easily fit two people) with a toilet, and a comfy living room. The first floor features three bedrooms and a small lavatory room. The second floor has a single bedroom, a double bunk room and a really large bathroom. I'm a little surprised they didn't make more of the space: if the bath wasn't so tight against the wall and the angle of the chimney, its shower could be mounted higher. Although the cottage does have a parking space assigned to it, I really don't recommend using it, as it's ridiculously difficult to manoeuvre a car into the tight little lane leading to the space, and you risk damaging your vehicle. Instead, park in the Salvation Army car park just before it, to unload, then move your car to the East Cliff car park off Cliff Road nearby, and buy a week's season ticket, which is also good for the Station Road car park.”

“Clarendon house is a great house. It has been renovated fairly recently and while keeping lots of character and charm the newly done kitchen, bathrooms and showers were excellent. The carpets are lovely and clean and of good quality so that it is very quiet when ones are going up and down the stairs. The beds were so comfortable that we all slept really well. There were plenty of towels and bedding, all nice and new and fresh. The kitchen was fitted out really well and had everything we could possibly need. We didn't use the courtyard particularly as the weather wasn't great but it's a nice little space. The position of Claredon is excellent. 2 minutes from the town and maybe 3 from the beach. We took a dog and the only thing to be aware of is that dogs cannot go on the near part of the beach between May and September/October so you have to venture further if you want to let them off onto the beach. Its not that far, but just a consideration. We could only park outside rarely but we always found somewhere fairly nearby. We were really impressed with the house and the way it had been prepared for our stay.”

“We had a fabulous long weekend at Bramble Cottage in Sheringham. The cottage is in a fantastic location for all the local attractions and facilities. Shops, pubs, restaurants and the railway are all only a short walk away. There is a lovely park across the road and lots or walking trails, perfect if you have a dog with you. The cottage itself is great, small, but everything you need. The stairs are steep and the steps are narrow. OK to go up, but coming down could be a challenge if you have mobility issues. For this reason, I personally wouldn&#39;t recommend the cottage for small children. Also note that the garden is not immediately accessible from the property, you need to walk across the parking space. Therefore, you cannot just open the door and let the dog out or let children play unattended. The cottage is also on a busy main road. I would also note that there can be problems driving out of the allocated parking space as vans parked along the road can restrict the view, so caution is required coming out onto the main road.<br /> However, none of those things were major issues and we had a great time. ”
