What our customers say about their holidays

  • Mrs Wright - Verified booking

Lovely big house with some great features The view is amazing and the upstairs floor with the large velux windows is a pleasure to sit in to admire the view. Well equipped. There were some complementary toiletries in both bathrooms, a bottle of Prosecco (very nice touch) and there were towels provided (the property details did say to bring your own?) Kitchen is very well equipped. Although we didn’t cook as there are lots of lovely restaurants which are just a short walk away in the centre of Saundersfoot. Parking wasn’t an issue. There is ample space to park at the side of the property and, as it is a quiet cul de sac, there is no issue with passing traffic. Had a nice relaxing time. Great to sit and read and admire the lovely views. There is also a Play Station for the kids with some games to use. There was a retro Atari game set in the lounge which my husband loved. Took us back to our youth! There are a lot of stairs in the property to access each of the floors. I think if you have Mobility issues this may be worth considering. Kept us fit! Would love to return in the summer months as I think this house would be amazing on a summers day. Only negative was there were a couple of areas that would have benefited from more attention to the cleaning schedule.

The cottage was lovely and most of the facilities were impressive.

However, the wi-fi was almost non-existent and none of our party (5) could make or receive phone calls on our mobiles. Even walking up the hill a couple of hundred yards did not produce a network connection. We were from three different households, all with children and grandchildren whom we like to stay in contact with, but this was not possible once we returned to the cottage each evening. One of our group, who is self-employed, left 2 days earlier than planned because he was out of reach of his customers for long periods. He texted my sister at 9pm to let her know that he arrived home safely, but this was not received until over 2 hours later by her. She could not phone him, as no network. Planning day trips without a signal for GPS was problematic and we had to drive a mile up the road before we could do this. I think we should have been informed that the wi-fi was very sporadic and phone network would be lost, particularly given the price that we paid. Also, the cottage, although lovely, was very dark and the very small patio areas did not get any evening sunshine, which was a shame, as it would have been nice to have had the option to dine outside, as you do when on holiday and the weather is beautiful.

The property is absolutely idyllic and in a lovely area with beautiful views, this is where the positive feedback ends.

The property is not very clean, cobwebs on the windows, dirty carpets and sofa, scuffed walls, dead flys on surfaces these issues may be down to the cleaning staff and not the owner BUT the old fashioned interior is down to the owner, the stair carpet dates from circa 1960 and it could be made into a lovely modern cottage, instead of an old fashioned cottage, which holds no appeal. Apat from above, the main gripe for us was on 3 seperate occasions, somebody entered the cottage without our permission, when we weren't home. We thought it odd when we were told to leave the keys in the key safe when we were out.....the first occasion somebody entered the property, we knew as the doors had been left open when we had closed them AND the key safe wasn't on the numbers we had left them on, when we left the property, that occurred on 2 more occasions. We approached sykes who weren't Interested and they informed the owner who stated nobody had entered the cottage this is not true, we have no reason to lie what would be our gain? Would we stay there again NO, is it overpriced YES ....its like staying in an elderly relatives home but the difference is one has to pay......not a happy experience at all.

We had a week in Penllain as a family of four in July 2023.

The cottage is every bit as charming as the pictures show; it is as neat as a pin, thoughtfully appointed and is obviously well loved and cared for. Inside is a very well kitted out kitchen with all that you could need for creating culinary delights, a cosy lounge with a fire and really comfy sofa and chairs and even blankets to snuggle up with. The bedrooms are very comfortable, perfect for catching up on sleep and letting teens lie in! The downstairs bathroom is spot on with a good shower over the bath, steam free mirror and underfloor heating, again all appreciated by the teenagers. Outside, the garden is perfect for games and sitting in the sun. The location is fabulous, off the beaten track, very peaceful and with stunning views. The track outside leads straight up on to the top of the hills so walking from the front door is an easy option which we enjoyed. We also walked back to the cottage from Newport without getting run over... The cottage would give you the same sort of hug in winter as it does in the summer, and we will definitely be back - with our dog next time. Highly recommend it as a place to take the chance to slow down, recharge and restore oneself.

Lovely clean and comfortable cottage in a quiet hamlet but near to pubs and beaches.

So restful sitting next to the stream listening to all the birds. The owners' kindly provided a starter pack of milk, fresh eggs, brownies, wine and doggie treats. There was also a well equipped kitchen with tea, coffee and sugar to start the stay off. One of the houses had an honesty box where you could buy a box of half dozen fresh eggs for a £1 and they were the best eggs ever had for breakfast. The shower was brilliant and the bath was a real decadent experience, due to the high water pressure a little bit of bubble bath went a long way, only thing I didn't think of was a glass of bubbly! Won't forget next time. It was a lovely touch that the owner's rang on the Sat to check if everything was okay. As they had left full instructions on how everything worked luckily I didn't need to bother them. Would certainly go back and would highly recommend if you want a nice peaceful place to stay but near to everything you need to enjoy the holiday.
