The School House Sandsend is a property with character, nestled in a tranquil corner of Sandsend, offering easy access to the sea and scenic walks. Guests appreciate the well-equipped house, comfortable furnishings, and the generous welcome basket provided by considerate hosts. While some find the property to have a charming, shabby chic vibe, others suggest it could benefit from a refresh.
The property received mixed feedback regarding cleanliness. Some guests were satisfied, mentioning a lovely hamper on arrival, while others noted it could benefit from a more thorough cleaning. This suggests a generally acceptable level of cleanliness with room for improvement.
The location is highly praised for its proximity to the sea, beautiful coastline, and accessibility to Whitby and the wider North Yorkshire area. It is described as perfect for exploring and ideal for dog owners, indicating a near-excellent location score.
Guests find the beds and sofas very comfortable, contributing to a positive experience. However, concerns about steep stairs and suitability for those with mobility issues or small children slightly lower the comfort score.
The property is well-equipped, but several reviews mention it appears tired and in need of maintenance, such as a fresh coat of paint and repair of garden steps. The facilities are adequate but would benefit from updating.
The hosts are commended for their helpfulness and the welcome basket, which was much appreciated by guests. However, as gifts are not guaranteed for every stay, this score reflects the positive mentions while politely noting the possibility of variation.
Less than 200 metres from Sandsend Beach and just 3 miles from the popular seaside town of Whitby, this delightful former school house-turned-cottage invites families or groups of friends for a peaceful getaway. The host village of Sandsend boasts a good choice of coastal cafes, pubs and fish and chip shops. For more seaside charm, head to Whitby where vibrant streets of intendent shops, restaurants and pubs await, as well as a sandy beach and the dramatic ruins of Whitby Abbey. This three-bedroomed holiday cottage has been completely refurbished into a beautiful retreat, perfect for those who love to feel the sand between their toes just minutes from the door. The interior style is like a rustic city apartment meets seaside chic – expect whitewashed wooden panels, chic artwork on the walls and modern comforts all in one. When stomachs start to rumble, walk around to the well-appointed kitchen with its sleek units and kitchen island that offer plenty of space for whipping up memorable holiday meals. Gather at the rustic dining table nearby to enjoy the chef’s work or take your plates out to the garden to dine alfresco at the picnic bench. When it’s time to sleep, choose from three wonderful bedrooms, two at ground level, the third upstairs. On the ground floor, a well-equipped family bathroom serves a super-king-size room and a welcoming twin, both with seaside vibes and comfortable beds.
