  Great cottage close to the coast and a brilliant town with plenty of shops and eating places.

  Cottage was fantastic, very clean and everything we needed. Only downfall was the car parking, the small square car park directly outside the cottage is only a short stay metered car park so can only get two hours per ticket and the permit provided gives you street parking around the corner on the Main Street near the fish shop, but there are never any spaces so had to go to the long stay car park which is a good walk away and the all day tickets only cover you for the day of purchase so was having to get up early every morning to go round for 8 in the morning to buy another all day ticket for it. Spaces are also very limited so a bit of back and forth between short stay and long stay till you eventually get a space. Cost a fortune in parking due to this. The price for all day parking on Sykes is also wrong and needs updating, it’s over double what they say. Other than the parking issues it’s a fantastic cottage and would go again.

  A beautiful gem of a property right in the heart of Whitby with gorgeous views on all levels overlooking the harbour and Abbey. Close proximity to the town and amenities, but still peaceful and calm. Plenty of homely additions to settle in whilst staying, as well as secure outdoor space that also makes the most of the beautiful view. Clear instructions and guides on how to get round and make the most of Whitby and the surrounding area, and overall very clean and welcoming. Would definitely recommend and book again if coming back to the area. However, it's best to be clear that some with accessibility issues may struggle with some aspects of this property/location. The parking may be tricky, there is a long stay car park just a few short minutes walk up a steep hill/stairs that costs just under £10 for 24 hours. The house is also over three levels with very steep stairs.

  Chimes Cottage is very cosy and a great place to stay.

  It is just off the main road, which was a nice surprise. By coming in (just) after 6 p.m. each day, you can then pick up up a free 2 hour parking ticket, by pressing the green button, which means you do not have to go out until 10.00a.m. We got a space each time with little problem. Apart from a washing machine (no big hindrance), everything else was there. Coffee, tea and milk provided as a starter. The is a lovely little back yard and whilst the chiming of the church clock every 15 minutes is enchanting, it is very thoughtful of the ‘locals’ that there is no chiming after 10.00p.m. until 7a.m. Chimes Cottage is comfortable, good value for money and in excellent location for a lot of Yorkshire… though Redcar is quiet and friendly, with a fantastic beach from there through to Saltburn - where the cliffs begin!

  After telephoning the owner to find out how the dated tv set worked, he said he had tried to contact us to advise there was no hot water apart from the shower.

  This meant boiling a kettle to wash hands after using the loo and to wash up. He never arranged any repair during our brief stay. The lavatory leaks and the cistern is faulty with haphazard results when flushing . Sometime the water stops . At other times there is a continual flow of water and the cistern noisily keeps trying to refill. The shower door handle was filthy and there was mould on the clothes airer in the shower room as well on the woodwork. The kitchen is not easy to prepare a meal in as the limited space is cluttered with ornaments and two microwaves. The bed is really only suitable for one person as if the loo is required during the night, one person has to climb over the other. The front door has a letter box without any back flap and so a draught comes through unless it is physically blocked.

  As mentioned above, this was a great property in a fantastic location with easy access to everything in Whitby. The town has plenty of character and was great with lots of bars & restaurants and plenty of shops, plus the abbey for those who want some history. There were only 2 of us staying so we closed off the hatch to the twin room on the ground floor so didn't ever use the front door. Everything in the cottage was what you need for a cottage stay away from home, well equipped kitchen & bathroom, comfy lounge with views over the harbour, and a master bedroom on the top floor. There is a bit of a dogy step in the bedroom, but the owner has put a sensor light by it so if you get up in the middle of the night it won't catch you out. Would 100% recommend Willow Cottage to a friend.
