  We recently spent a week at Cartmel cottage.

  It is the third time we have been, needless to say, we love it there. The cottage is clean and well maintained, with everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing stay. We were contacted by the owner the week before we went, to inform us that there had been a flood in the kitchen due to a faulty washing machine resulting in damage to the laminate flooring. We still went to Cartmel, it was only a minor inconvenience and the owner offered us a partial refund as compensation. We also made use of the brand new washing machine that had been installed. The shower in the bathroom is virtually new easy to use, and has good water pressure. Towels are provided, (and there are plenty of them). The main road at the front of the cottage is perhaps a little busier than previous visits but it was peak tourist season whilst we were there. Instead of stepping out of the front gate straight onto the road, we made use of the back door and cut through the little alley way. It is virtually the same distance to the village square. The horses which pass several times a day on their way to and from the gallops are a major draw for us. The only improvement that we feel could be made to the cottage, is possibly the provision of a little more comfortable seating in the living room. Fortunately, the weather was great and we were able to spend most of our time outside. As I've said, we love it there and most certainly will return.

  Was a really great cottage in a lovely village.

  If you’re into history and race horses then Middleham will suit you to a T. A few times each morning dozens of race horses leave their stables next door making their way to the gallops which is also a great location for walking and running for humans too. Our only negatives was the cleanliness of the cottage, the cleaner doesn’t seem to know how to clean pan and vacuum the sides of the sofa oh and the knives in the block are blunt, making chopping up veg quite an experience. One key point to note is that this cottage is on the main road, can be especially noisy at the weekend with noisy motorbikes. We only ate out one evening, would recommend the Richard III on the square, not the smartest pub in the word but they do know how to cook! We would recommend this cottage, the owner will go out of their way to assist with your planning. For the negatives, the positives outweigh the negatives. We would definitely recommend this cottage and the location.

  We had a really pleasant stay at this property.

  There were a few things however that did slightly affect our overall rating. The Bannister railings upstairs on the right were loose.That was a safety concern for us as we had to be careful not to hold onto a certain part of it .Particularly as we had a child. The upstairs bedroom windows didn't have any blinds or net curtains so the house opposite could see right in .This again was a privacy and modesty concern. The bath was not very deep therefore slightly uncomfortable in the bathroom . The small stool seat in the main bedroom near the dressing table was broken so you couldn't sit on it properly . The WiFi was unfortunately not a good coverage.We couldn't watch catch up TV properly or it would buffer alot whilst loading. These are all things that could be easily addressed though .We enjoyed our stay and the facilities overall were good. It was a cottage full of character in a beautiful area.

  Cartmel Cottage is delightfully furnished and clean.

  The beds are very comfortable with crisp cotton bedding and quilts. The cottage is situated in the heart of Middleham with shops and pubs close to hand. The latter provide interesting food especially pleasing we're their vegetarian choices. Of course the true delight are the racehorses from Mark Johnson's stable that pass in front of the cottage a few times every morning. There's a little garden at the front of the cottage to relax in and listen to the church chimes. A good selection of visitor nformation is provided. Although there is no parking outside the cottage, it isn't a problem as the square is close by. I would happily stay at Cartmel Cottage again if I returned to the Dales.

  We have just returned home from what was meant to be a stay from 27 June to 30 June.

  Firstly, the mattress was full of stains. We resorted to sleeping on the top of the duvet with one of the spare duvet covers over us as a sheet. Secondly the property was on the road edge - no mention of this in the description. We got there on the Monday afternoon and as it was nice and sunny we sat in the garden. Quite frankly it was like sitting on the edge of the M62 - there was a constant flow of heavy traffic meaning we couldnt even hear each other as we spoke. Once you stepped out of the gate you were directly onto the road. Extremely disappointed to say the least. I would appreciate your comments.
