Hudswell is a small village located just two miles the town of Richmond in Swaledale. Set in rolling countryside, the village boasts a high street with old houses lining the route, and a local pub, the George and Dragon. Like many village pubs, it recently fell on difficult times, so the villagers clubbed together and now run it as a 'Community Pub Initiative'. The market town of Richmond stands to the north of the River Swale. The town grew up around its castle and today there are wonderful walks to be enjoyed by the castle or alongside the River Swale where there are parks, safe paddling areas and small waterfalls. Narrow streets and alleys radiate from the cobbled Market Place (which has a weekly market and monthly farmers' market) and there are numerous shops, pubs and restaurants to enjoy.

Oil central heating with woodburning stove. Electric cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, 2 x TVs, DVD, radio/CD, books/games. Fuel & power inc. in rent. Ms Carole Bainbridge, Chorley, Lancashire
"We booked this property so that the whole family could celebrate my dad's 90th birthday under one roof. York House did not disappoint us. We found it spacious yet warm, cosy and welcoming. The outlook at the back of the house is lovely and the village of Hudswell is friendly. The property owner deserves a special mention. We've stayed in many cottages over the years but haven't ever come across an owner as friendly, helpful and welcoming."

Just a short drive away is the picturesque town of Richmond, as was Richmond golf course, absolutely essential for the men. The local pub was welcoming and friendly, with a good selection of drinks and excellent food on offer. The weather was perfect which of course, made all the difference."

"The location was excellent so nice being in a small village. The pub was so close by so that we could all walk there. There are great views from nearly all the windows. The property was spacious enough that everyone had space to unwind. However it has warm a cosy feel & we enjoyed all sitting around the kitchen table together. The owner was extremely helpful and was always on hand if we had any questions, local knowledge is always useful and he spent time with us to answer our many questions. "
    Mr Jeremy Bland, Colchester, Essex

"The cottage was ideally located. We were comfortable and warm. A home from home experience. Local pub was fabulous, friendly and relaxed. The owner of the cottage popped round half way through the week to make sure all was okay; which was really nice. In a nutshell; a great break in a comfortable home in a great location. We will be back. "
Mrs Holt, York, East Riding of Yorkshire
"A comfortable house in a beautiful Yorkshire village. Very peaceful, not on a busy main road. Wonderful scenery, is as good as it gets, and just a few minutes drive to the interesting Georgian town of Richmond. Supermarket shopping down the road in Catterick. Just a few miles from the brewery village of Masham for a drop of real beer and good food. Good cheese available in Wensleydale! The village pub is a must, very welcoming, and just how you imagine a village pub should be."
    Mr Knox, Greenock, Inverclyde
"Beautiful location in a lovely village, with very friendly locals, close to Richmond, and with superb local scenery. Great accommodation with a lovely enclosed rear garden."
    Mr Conway, Bishop Auckland, Durham
"The accommodation was ideally situated as we were on a weeks fishing holiday and had the choice of five different venues. The landlord was very friendly and helpful. We frequented the local ale house, which was great and we gave them some of our trout that we caught. Everyone from the village took time to speak to us, either in the street, the garden or the pub. We were made to feel as we were part of the village which made for a very enjoyable stay indeed."
    Mr Smylie, Bristol, Somerset
"Good position, good village and all very friendly in the pub."
