Whether you’ve visited before or it’s your first time heading over, this county offers plenty to be discovered. From its wild woodlands to the dramatic cliffside coast paths, there’s so much to see and do at the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. While your dog might not be as taken aback by the breathtaking scenery as you will be, they’ll still enjoy the sights and sounds of somewhere new. If your pup loves nothing more than splashing about in the sea, there’s certainly no shortage of beach walks over in Pembrokeshire.

By choosing to stay in one of our many pet-friendly properties, you won’t need to worry about kennels and pet-sitters for your beloved pup. Just pack their lead, toys and food, and enjoy some time away with all the family included. From Broad Haven to St Davids, Pembrokeshire is the ideal base for dog-walkers with its abundance of picturesque coastal paths and trails. Don’t just take our word for it, have a look for yourself today! (P.S. Keep an eye out for our special offers on pet-friendly properties!)

Best dog-friendly beaches in Pembrokeshire

Marloes Sands

This mile-long beach in Marloes is a great spot for relaxed walks with the dog. Along the way, you’ll find hidden bays and coves - ideal if you’re looking to find a quiet spot to spot and take in the views! The best thing is that there are absolutely no dog restrictions at Marloes Sands.

Freshwater West Beach

You might have already seen Freshwater West Beach on your TV before! This long stretch of sandy coastline in Castlemartin has actually made its way into a few Hollywood films, such as Harry Potter and Robin Hood. Dogs are allowed to run and play along the beach year-round.

Monkstone Beach

If you prefer exploring off the beaten track, then Monkstone Beach is for you. Travel across the Trevayne Farm footpath to reach this remote hidden gem. Before you set off, make sure to check the tide times!

Newgale Beach

With over two miles of soft, golden sands, it’s no wonder that Newgale Beach earned its Blue Flag status last year. Popular with locals and visitors alike, you’ll find a cafe, surf shop and toilets along its stretch of coastline.

Poppit Sands

Yet another fantastic Blue Flag beach, Poppit Sands is a popular spot for surfing and kayaking. If you’d prefer to stay on the sand, then you’ll find plenty of space to sit down and relax to the sounds of the rolling waves.

Things to do in Pembrokeshire

Pembroke Castle

This medieval 12th-century castle was once home to Richard I. Nowadays, it’s a popular tourist attraction, allowing dogs to wander the vast Pembroke Castle grounds with their owners.

Colby Woodland Garden

Set within a peaceful, secluded valley, Colby Woodland Garden is perfect for walks with the dog. From spring to summer, you’ll enjoy vibrant meadows of bluebells and daffodils. Later on in the year, the acers bring the typical red and orange hues of autumn.

Manorbier Castle

Five miles from the town of Tenby stands the grounds of Manorbier Castle. Slightly off the beaten track, it’s well worth a visit if you love exploring the history of new places. Dogs are allowed within the walls, as long as they’re on a lead.

Dyffryn Fernant Garden

Meander around six acres of exotic plants, trees, and shrubs at the Dyffryn Fernant Garden. Throughout the year, the garden is home to a wide variety of plant species, making it the perfect day out for keen botanists and gardeners.

Welsh Wildlife Centre

For a day out the whole family can enjoy, head over to the Welsh Wildlife Centre in Cilgerran. Here, you can enjoy a variety of nature trails as well as getting the opportunity to meet the resident water buffalos and willow badgers!

What our customers say about their holidays

  • Mrs Mead - Verified booking

We had a lovely fortnight in Driftwood Cottage. We chose it mainly for the enclosed garden for our dog, which was perfect and very tranquil. We enjoyed watching all the birds and the squirrel come to the feeder. The cottage is built on a hillside and has an interesting layout, with just a few steps between the 'top floor' (at road level) where there are 2 bedrooms, and the kitchen, lounge and third bedroom which are at garden level. Access is available from the front door at road level or via a steep path to the side door which takes you in by the kitchen. It might be tricky for anyone with a disability though. The kitchen was extremely well equipped and had everything we needed. Beds were comfy and the shower was ok - the bath was great! Chairs and sofa were also comfortable and the TV was a decent size but TV reception was a bit flakey. Some of the roads leading to Little Haven are narrow (single track with passing places on some routes) so not for the nervous! We did lots of coastal path walking straight from the door though, so you don't need to drive much once you get here if you don't want to!

Very well equipped ground floor flat (a few steps up from the pavement). The property is just a small and very quiet road across from the beach, with steps down to reach miles of golden sandy beaches. There are three islands directly opposite/near the flat - one is Caldey Island -- you can visit the monastery there and look round the island by boat from Tenby. Stunning views. You can park on The Paragon, which is the quiet road the flat is on. The road is mostly used by people going to the beach. The flat has secondary glazing, so you don't hear much of what's going on outside. Comfortable extra large double bed in a very spacious bedroom. Also a twin room, which has less room, but which was fine. Small balcony outside the twin room. The area is stunning and Tenby is a busy little place, with a good variety of shops (Tesco Extra, Sainsburys, WH Smith, Boots and lots of independent shops). Short walk to the shops - maybe 3 minutes. Recommend this comfortable, spacious flat, which was immaculately clean. Thanks for a great holiday.

Driftwood cottage was in a perfect location for us; a very short distance to the beach but slightly away & therefore very peaceful. The property was really welcoming, a bit quirky, surprisingly spacious, clean, well stocked & the garden was secure & private for us & our dog. The 3 bedrooms suited our party perfectly (myself & husband in the double, our early 20’s daughter in the single & our 19 year old daughter & her close friend the same age in the twin room). This is our favourite of all the holiday cottages we have stayed in, in Little haven over the past 20 years. The owner was really helpful ( we had his contact number) & when we come back to Little Haven again (which we will be doing) we intend to stay in Driftwood Cottage again. All of us had a fabulous week with stunning weather, made even better thanks to the cottage itself. Please pass on our comments to the owner!

Amazing apartment, fantastic sea views from all windows which are large, spacious airy rooms, spotlessly clean, excellent quality equipment and furnishings, lots of little extras for comfort like a fan in each bedroom, small radio, lots of books, games and dvds in the lounge, large tv with lots of channels provided, very comfy beds and sofas, apartment very close to shops, restaurants, coffee shops, beaches, all around a 20 min walk and one of our party is less able but still managed to walk to everything and back. Definately one of THE best if not the best holiday property we have stayed in and Tenby is just beautiful and, for dog owners which we are, VERY dog friendly. Can’t fault anything and will definately be returning to this property again. Angie Barker and familly Stayed 28 June to 5 July 2024

The property was not situated within 0.1km of a shop, as advertised on website. Otherwise, this was in a fantastic location. There was an ironing board at the property, but no iron. We had to clean some kitchen cupboard interiors, the hob and some pots on our arrival, as these were dirty. One mug had a crack in it, so could not be used. Beds comfortable, but sofas were not. However, it was suitable for a week. There was nothing to light the barbecue with, but the welcome hamper was a lovely touch. The door was very hard to open and close due to the bottom seal. Elderly people would struggle with this. It is a potential fire hazard. The grounds were excellent, although we did have to pick up litter from around the play area on arrival, before allowing our dog out.
