Dog Friendly Cottages New Forest

With endless expanses of lush nature and tons of wildlife, this stunning national park is straight out of a fairytale. Discover our breathtaking range of dog-friendly accommodation in The New Forest and unlock the magic for yourself.

Dog-Friendly Holidays in the New Forest

While it has only been a national park since 2005, The New Forest was proclaimed 'Royal Forest' by William The Conqueror and features in the Domesday book. Set in Hampshire, the ancient 556 square kilometres has some of the last remaining untouched pasture land in the South East of England.

Along the 225 kilometres of walking tracks, you’ll find native wild ponies and deer, impressive woodland and striking glades. There are also salt marshes, dunes, heathland and over 40 miles of pristine coastline, stretching all the way from Totton to Barton-on-sea.

Dogs (and humans) can enjoy a paddle around Goatee Beach overlooking Southampton docks and both Barton-on-sea and Milford-on-sea beaches are dog-friendly year-round. Milford also boasts the amazingly preserved Hurst Castle as well as spectacular views of The Isle of Wight.

For rainy days, the New Forest is full of fascinating indoor, dog-friendly activities. The New Forest Heritage Centre is an amazing way to connect with the local culture and has both a museum and gallery space. If you and your pal aren't scared, The New Forest Reptile Centre also welcomes canine companions!

Types of Dog-Friendly Accommodation in the New Forest

Want to wake up to views of historic woodlands or watch the sunset over the coast through the trees? From cabins nestled in the woods to cottages right on the beach, our collection of dog-friendly accommodation has something to match every daydream.

Dog-Friendly Cottages in the New Forest

Discover our collection of homes in the heart of the New Forest. It includes rustic wood cabins, historic cottages, and expansive lodges. You can even find unique stays in treehouse-style properties.

Pet-Friendly Holidays in the New Forest by the Sea

Throughout our collection, you’ll find properties directly overlooking the ocean. This means you can enjoy your morning coffee on a patio overlooking the waves or head straight for a walk on a coastal trail.

Enclosed gardens mean your pup can wander freely even when they’re not exploring the beach. Meanwhile, you can enjoy luxurious features like outdoor hot tubs and swimming pools.

What our customers say about their holidays

  • Rebecca - Verified booking

The property was excellently located; a short walk into Lymington and with pubs (the Borough Arms and the Monkey Brewhouse) located at the end of Lower Buckland Road.

The property was exceptionally clean - very high standards maintained with this. The beds were also extremely comfortable, the kitchen was extremely well equipped also. The downstairs area was really useful for cooking and then bringing to the table - this also has a small portable radiator which was extremely useful in the cold weather and where the conservatory looses heat very quickly. The modern interiors were lovely and the sunny extension was wonderful, even in rainy weather. There's plenty of storage space and the rooms have their own bathrooms which was extremely handy. The information packs were very thoughtfully laid out and had everything that we needed during our stay, including useful pointers on local places of interest. There were a few aspects that could use improvement. When we arrived the whole property was extremely cold and we had to leave the heating on for a long time for the property to heat up which was probably less than economical. There was a small portable radiator which did help but it might have been useful to have this on a remotely controlled timer for out of season guests to make sure it's not so cold on arrival but still make cost savings with it being switched off when empty. The first floor bathroom had an air evacuation flap which was loose and kept banging in the wind all through the night and also the shower temperature control was extremely difficult to control - stiff and very sensitive! In the top bedroom, we noticed half way through (as we weren't using that level) that the light was left on in the bathroom, probably during cleaning between residents. This is probably me being overly fussy as the kitchen was otherwise very well equipped, there wasn't an espresso machine which is usually found in most holiday properties (there was a french press though!). Finally, the cleaning supplies were quite limited (dishwasher tablets - we did leave some for the next guests which we purchased) and the cloths weren't really able to make sure we could wipe down properly before we left as requested in the check out pack. For future residents, I'd just be aware that the staircases are very steep. We attended with our dog and the poor thing did fall a couple of times because it was quite steep. Additionally, the garden isn't really very dog friendly, we were advised the back of the garden isn't fully enclosed which is fine. However, there is no grass and most dogs usually will only want to go on grass so if you are bringing a pooch, you might want to take them to the grassy patch a minute from the property in order to toilet.

The house itself was clean and well equipped.

The wifi connection was poor and every hour or so buffered, meaning I could not watch on demand TV or use zoom. I would not recommend relying on the wifi if you want to work from there. I struggled with the parking clock. I could never get parking at the small Gosport parking area and had to change every 20 hrs between Cannon Street and St Thomas street. For stays of a few days I imagine this is fine, but for me having to every day move my car back and forwards was hugely annoying (and wasted 30 minutes every morning especially if i dont want to leave at 8am). It meant having to plan your car usage strategically: either parking just before closing to get a lie in (consequently parking and walking around a car park in the dark) or waking up early before the car park opens. This was not an enjoyable experience and felt like a hassle for a holiday. The property description should accurately state what free means i.e "free public parking for 20 hours each day - guests will have to move their car each day to a different car park due to the no return rules." The road directly out front is extremely busy and very noisy. This is fine if you are planning on not staying in during the day and definitely explains why children are not permitted at the house. Finally, whilst it says pet friendly, I would give caution, as the road out front is extremely busy and has a very small pedestrian pathway. I had to keep my dog on a very tight lead and step out in front first for safety.

This property is really nicely decorated and equipped.

It has parking (probably easiest for one car only due to the telegraph pole) and is only 5 minutes walk into Lymington. We have stayed several times due to it's convenient location near to a relative. There are just a couple of niggles though. One is that the temperature for the shower in the top room can't be turned down more than a degree as the mechanism is jammed. So, if you don't like very hot showers you have to use the other ensuite. That is inconvenient and bot always possible. We have mentioned this before in a private message to the owners via Sykes cottages but it hasn't been dealt with, which is a shame. The other thing is that there are no instructions for the TV and BT box so it is difficult to work out how to use it. Finally there was no welcome pack which is very unusual. Just a small pack with some essentials like bread and milk, biscuits or a bottle of wine is common and makes your guests happy. If these things were sorted out then it would definitely means 5 stars across the board.

We had a lovely stay at Starboard Light which is a cosy little cottage and perfect for two.

As per the description, there is no parking at the cottage but there was a parking disc provided and plenty of nearby car parks within a two minute walk. The only comment I would make is that pulling up outside in the lane to unload the car was not an option for us. Although it's a small road, it is busy and a main through route. It's also narrow and we felt we would have caused an obstruction if we stopped there. However, the Quay car park is close by and luckily we travel light. We had a short weekend stay and didn't actually use any of the kitchen facilities in the cottage as we ate out every day. There's a good selection of cafes, pubs and restaurants right on the doorstep. However, the kitchen looked to be well stocked with everything you would need. The bedroom and bathroom were gorgeous and the bed was so comfy. The shower was excellent and all the furniture and decor was lovely and homely. We would definitely consider a return visit.

The cottage was well presented and well equipped.

However, we experienced several unfortunate issues. We searched for the parking clock for ten minutes when we arrived and eventually found out that the cleaning staff had taken it with them so we had to rapidly unpack in the very narrow street and pay for overnight parking nearby. Then we had to wait in for the clock to be returned before we could go out to eat- not what you need after a long journey. When we at last retired we found that the bed had an ill fitting mattress topper on it as the mattress had certainly seen better days. This led to us giving up by Sunday morning and returning home then. Overall the cottage was clean but the windows were covered in perpetual condensation that however much was mopped up came back almost instantly. Of course this meant there was mould on the window sills. Worrying if you are an asthmatic. Perhaps this particular rent was more suited to summer visitors rather than a winter stay?
