What our customers say about their holidays

Briar Cottage is in a lived location- very Beatrix Potter.
It as an old cottage that has been updated. Finding it wasnât that difficult and itâs very quiet and no street lighting to ruin the night sky. Our biggest issue was the poor cleaning of the property. We noticed that this has been an issue in the past. The beds are comfortable and linen etc very clean. An issue with a stain on the duvet wasnât discovered until we weâre removing the bed linen as requested in the house book. The headroom in the bedrooms is very limited. This was a lit more limited than I thought as in their photos. I whacked my head on the beam whilst going to the loo in the dark. If youâre tall you will be bending over all the time up there. It also means that the ability to use bedroom space is very limited and essentially itâs usable in the central areas only. Maintenance of the property is poor. Black gaffa tape holding the bathroom door lock place and paintwork not finished on a door frame are not major jobs- just didnât care it seems? The furniture is something from a boot sale - charity shops would not sell it. The exception being the sofa and armchair. It gives the feeling that itâs been furnished on the cheap, or that the owner takes it for granted that itâs âcottagyâ - well itâs not. Log fire was lovely and cosy. The tv is too small for the size of room. Those needing subtitles wonât see writing we understand that you donât go to a cottage to watch tv, but when it rains and night time itâs good to be able to watch a movie in comfort. There was no ironing board or dishwasher which we thought very odd. All told the potential here is amazing, but for some reason the owners choose not to update. Outside, accessibility isnât too bad. One of us uses a walking stick. The rear wasnât accessible but the front was no problem and got the sunshine. For dogs, a gate on the rear garden would make it more secure for dogs. Walking paths and bridle paths abound with high handles on gates for riders. The ferry inn was a great find and thereâs plenty of places to eat around and about. Weâve stayed in plenty of places all around the uk and abroad. We try to be fair in our reviews and to highlight those owners who really try to ensure the cleanliness and maintenance is of a good standard. Itâs only fair to them to make a comment when something is below standard. But, itâs all fixable within a very short period of time- If you donât mind the headroom itâs a brilliant location to discover the area and very quiet when you return.

Our second break to Briar Cottage was very enjoyable.
A super warm small property with all the basic amenities you need. The bedrooms are welcoming, beds comfortable and stylishly accessorised (with extra duvets, whether lighter or additional stowed nearby) and plenty of pillows, cushions and wool blankets. I found traipsing upstairs to get a towel on arrival a bit annoying so maybe a hand towel hanging in the bathroom in readiness for guests would be a nice touch. A chest of drawers is available in each bedroom but no hanging space. We noted there are hooks for a few hangers in the bathroom if needed. A very tall person would need to watch out for the low beams and doorways but these are also characterful. Bath and hand towels were fluffy and plentiful. *Downstairs we believe some very easy updating is needed* We noted four items of crockery chipped (similar in our previous visit and we wondered if not replenished after our previous feedback) An ancient grubby door mat by the front door, teeny old towelling tea towel and frayed oven glove felt out of keeping. Certain faded and flat cushions cheapened the otherwise neat and welcoming property; very easily solved with ten minutes in Dunelm or The Range would resolve all the issues, time well spent. We also felt there werenât enough of each type of crockery for anyone wanting a three course meal for four people or not to want to wash up frequently. No dishwasher - we didnât mind - and there is a washing machine and clothes rack if required. We enjoyed a takeaway from Pembroke Dock and the property is well within the free delivery area. However we suggest you avail yourself of a supermarket trip in Pembroke Dock before travelling on to Neyland as the two main food retailers nearby have smaller ranges. If you wish to enjoy the wood burner for more than the first evening our advice is to make sure you buy extra logs at any petrol stations on the way. Fire lighters, matches, paper and kindling suppled. So in conclusion a very enjoyable and simple property without too many bells and whistles but literally a teeny bit of replenishing needed to keep the property up to a required decorative order.

Very welcoming, cottage-style accommodation having mature leafy gardens set in various levels, surrounded by fields and forests, gloriously ten minutes by car from Neylandâs picturesque waterside, smaller shops, bars and restaurants.
Very attractive bedrooms with warm blankets and cushions offering a modern yet country level of style and comfort. Books for all ages, DVDs and board games offer the âfamily homeâ feel, with maps and information box to guide you around the area. We left our own suggestion of a delicious eatery which gladly delivers! We didnât have the weather for the garden furniture but the two patios offer welcome spaces for morning and evening sunshine. Some unfenced steep drops so upper garden unsuitable for younger children without supervision. Also slate floors and open stairs inside so unsuitable for toddlers or just about to walk-ers. Super warm oil central heating and wood burning stove; a small quantity of kindling and logs supplied, with papers and matches. You will need to bring your own logs for a longer stay, available from garages on your way into town. Well worth it if youâd like the atmosphere but snug even without. Plenty of bath and hand towels, pillows, spare bedding and cushions. Single tea towel, jay cloth and washing up sponge supplied. Hand soaps and washing up liquid. No kitchen spray* or cif type product found to enable that hygienic finish after meals. *I wouldnât usually pack those. Usual be ushes, dustpan and brush and vacuum cleaner available plus hair dryer and travel iron in bedroom drawers. Clothes airer and washing machine. Boiler room with space to dry. Sufficient crockery, glasses, cutlery and saucepans etc. for the majority of holiday self-catering needs. Very good extractor fan and fan oven, microwave, kettle and toaster. Very small, less recent fridge freezer. No dishwasher. We would recommend this accommodation for a small family or couple having a car to travel around. Bring all your essentials. **Easier to find from seafront direction on your first try!**

This is a super little cottage, ideal for anyone wanting a quiet spot but with easy access to Fishguard and north Pembrokeshire coast.
It is also perfect for dog owners with a secure back garden, hard floors throughout the ground floor and access from the door onto bridleways and footpaths for walking. We found it nicely decorated and furnished, really well equipped and everything supplied of a nice quality. We particularly appreciated that rather than take out the book and DVD selection a âquarantineâ crate was provided for the former and antiseptic wipes for the latter, meaning it retained its home from home feel. The owner next door is very friendly, approachable and helpful but not at all intrusive. There are a couple of features of the property that you should be clear about before booking. Firstly, access is via a rough and rather bumpy track for the last 200 metres - nothing an average car can't manage going slowly but don't take your low suspension car. The trade off for this is the amazingly quiet location despite being close to the bypass. Secondly there might be one or two difficulties for those with restricted mobility. There are 4 main rooms in the property and moving from any one to another, or indeed accessing the garden, is always via a few steps. We found our 11 year old rather arthritic retriever had to be coaxed up the steps from kitchen to lounge. Similarly much of the excellent array of cooking equipment in the kitchen is accessed from a corner cupboard requiring bending and stretching in a relatively confined space. This would in no way put us off booking again. We loved it!

The cottage has a lot of potential.
Lovely location, garden was secure for dogs, kitchen was well equipped & it felt very private, lots of lovely features such as the log burner & wooden floors, staircase was very sweet & the attic room was very specious. Unfortunately, it was very run down. The double bed was incredibly uncomfortable, when we stripped the bed at the end of our stay we could see it was an old mattress with just a mattress topper in an obvious attempt to make it more comfortable. The duvet was yellow & dirty. Thankfully, the white bedding was fresh & clean. The sofa cushions were non existent, no springs or padding left in the tiny sofa & the tub chairs incredibly uncomfortable. The shower was the biggest let down with a lot of mould in the grout & excessive mould on the bathroom ceiling. Cobwebs & dust everywhere. Bedroom lighting was awful, very very dull & dark & the furniture was old & marked very badly. We donât watch much tv on holiday but if we hadnât been able to get out weâd have struggled as not even a fire stick & minimal channels. The cottage was very very basic & over all a let down. We still enjoyed our weekend but feel that honest reviews would be much more helpful.
