Aconley Cottage sleeping up to 3 guests

This quaint little cottage dates back over 200 years and has been owned by the same family for more than 100 years. Aptly named after the lady that purchased the whole terrace of buildings in 1910 for the sum total of £150, the property has been transformed by her grandson into a cosy hideaway for three. Just 200 yards from the centre of Pickering, ideally located for exploring both the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, the Heritage Coast of Yorkshire and the Yorkshire Wolds. The historic market town of Pickering is home to a 12th Century castle, a small theatre and the North Yorkshire Moors steam train. Board the train, sit back, relax and enjoy some of Yorkshire’s finest scenery as it chugs its way through the glorious Esk Valley. Take a stroll along the cobbled streets on market day, browse the antique curio shops then pop into one of the many inns for lunch, all offering a warm and friendly welcome. War Weekends in Pickering sees the streets packed with visitors from far and wide. Dressed in their vintage costumes, the town becomes alive with music from the 40’s and is a sight to behold. There are fishing and trout farms just 400 yards from S37363, providing fun days for adults and children alike and you are guaranteed a catch for supper!

Take the car and visit Heartbeat country with Goathland and Grosmont some 12 miles along the road. Discover quaint little villages tucked away deep in the valleys where some of the finest tea rooms proudly serve Yorkshire cuisine. For cycling enthusiasts there is Dalby Forest just a short drive with cycle tracks for all ages. You can even hire a bike here, or maybe swing through the trees at Go Ape. Hosting many music festivals throughout the season Dalby Forest has much to offer all the family.

The ancient seaport of Whitby is an easy 18 miles across the moors and is known for its connection with Captain James Cook and Count Dracula. Fishing trips and whale spotting can be enjoyed from the harbour. The brave at heart can take the 199 steps to St Mary’s Church and the stunning abbey ruins where, on clear day, the panoramic views are not to be missed. A more elegant day can be enjoyed a little further to the south in Scarborough, Britain’s oldest seaside resort. There’s an eclectic mix of shopping in the town centre and the cliff lift will take you to the south bay where everything from donkey rides, candy floss and fun palaces to fine dining is on offer. The award winning sandy beaches at both the north and south bay is perfect for a family day at the seaside.

Golf is available in Kirkby Moorside, seven miles, with pitch and putt 1.5 miles and a driving range just four miles. The cathedral city of York is 25 miles and Kirkby Moorside and Malton still host weekly markets where local produce can be purchased. With so much to do and see in the area you may find yourself returning year after year.Shop 200 yards, pub 10 yards and restaurant 200 yards.

"Cottage beautiful, very cosy and very clean. Lovely surprise with a welcome box milk, bread, croissants and jam. In kitchen cupboard salt vinegar mustard gravy all things handy for cooking. Only slight problem with parking but a lot to do with roadworks. Pickering is a lovely place, recommend beck isle museum ,steam railway and castle. The shops nice too. Easy drive to Whitby and Scarborough and lots of nice villages all around."
    Keith

    Claire
"Well presented, cosy and clean cottage. The welcome pack on arrival was very thoughtful and most appreciated. Had a few tears where I was clumsy enough to bang my head but not the fault of the cottage in any way. If visiting the area in the future, would definitely like to stay at Aconley Cottage."
    Jules

    Andy

    Alison
"Very cosy accomodation. Lovely decor. Welcome pack a nice surpriseespecially after long days drive as we had forgotten to stop off for milk and bread. Very near to local amenities especially the steam train which is about 5 minute walking distance. Only downside coud be the roadside parking as you may need to park alot further along the road from the house.Lovely long weekend. Need to stay longer next time."
    Darren
    "Very noisy on main road."

"Cottage very small with no natural light in the kitchen, unless you had theback door open and kept kitchen door closed ,which had a glass panel init, though then you felt you were going outside to the downstairs bathroom. Thestairs were extremely steep and narrow, about which one was not aware of untilthe booking details came through, anyone with impaired mobility would havefound them very challenging.Very noisy on main road but the cottage was comfortably furnished and bedroomsmore than adequate. Glad we were 2 small women and our larger husbands werenot with us, would have been very squashed with them."
    Natasha
"Very cosy and homey cottage. Convenient location. Would stay again."
    Jon
"Lovely cosy cottage in great location (very near to the Sun Inn!). Nice touches for arrival such as eggs, milk and bacon as well as chocolates. Wifi could be useful to check out local attractions. A shower attachment in the bath would be useful as well as a shaver point in the bathroom. Overall though loved the cottage."
    Tracey
"When we arrived the cottage was spotless and warm. The owners had left a lovely welcome pack of milk, eggs, bread, bacon and butter a lovely gesture and appreciated. The cottage is cosy and decorated beautifully. The cottage is well equipped, the only thing that was missing was a shower. Thank you, we will visit again."

"Lovely comfortable, well equipped cottage in a handy location within easy walking distance to Pickering shops etc. The welcome gifts were a great touch too"
    Patricia
"Very comfortable home from home in an ideal location."
    Adrienne
"Lovely cottage in a great locations, great facilities. To improve it could probably do with a stair gate at the bottom of the stairs as we have a lively toddler who was always trying to scale the steep stairs. A shower head for the bath would be handy too."
