What our customers say about their holidays
Allen - Verified booking
Lovely cottage - the owner said theyâd had many holidays there and that was what made a difference I think.
It felt cosy like a real âhomeâ as soon as you walked in. The decor was not the cheap âmake do and mendâ that you often find - it was really nicely and tastefully done. The cottage was very well equipped and the owners had anticipated most of the needs of visitors. The welcome pack was very welcome. Thank you. The cottage was lovely and clean, very warm and comfortable. It has traditional features (including a few spooky creaks and groans. We swear we heard a young child say âDaddyâ just outside the bedroom door one nightâ¦.. we hid under the duvet) A couple of âeven better ifâsâ: (1) the dishwasher didnât work properly and after three washes we had to wash the pots by hand as they were not clean at all (2) maybe leave some washing up liquid and a couple of dishwasher tabs for the next visitors (we left dish cloths). (3) The property is very difficult to find. I couldnât find it on Google Earth so texted for clarification a few days before we went. I did not get a reply. We couldnât find it where the post code led us, so we scoured the streets - the locals in the pub hadnât heard of it either. The contact numbers provided were all the same number and not answered (no signal in the village so had to drive a couple of miles out of the village till I could get a signal). At one point, we even considered having to return home or find a Premier Inn for the night. I donât know if this will help future visitors but I took the âwhat three wordsâ reference: ///stylist.recorders.signature Somehow, we did spot the cottage on what was our last attempt. Negatives aside, all in all a lovely visit to a lovely cottage in a beautiful village. Our third stay in Staithes and the best cottage so far. We will be back.

Probably our 10th stay at The Bay, so we know it well.
Stayed for a week, with our dog. The addition of a shop this year was very welcome and over due. Reasonably priced and had everything you might need, although Tesco and Sainsburyâs do deliver to the site. Great for dogs as the beach is dog friendly and the site has lots of poo bins. The site is always clean and communal gardens well maintained. Parking is good and the bonus of this cottage was that it was right outside the front of the property on sleepers. Weâve stayed in different properties every visit and this was by far the nicest. We loved the bifold doors onto a small patio area with a table and 4 chairs. We used the BBQ and although brought our own charcoal etc- this had been provided which was a lovely bonus. The extra toilet downstairs was a bonus too. The kitchen was well equipped with plenty of pans, baking trays, utensils and crockery, unlike some of the other properties weâve stayed in. This one even provided oven gloves and tea towels. The large fridge freezer was fabulous but Iâm still baffled by the lack of a cupboard to store the rest of your food - but every property at The Bay is like it. The cottage was also the cleanest weâve stayed at on the site. The cottage is decorated in a modern style. The king size bed in the master bedroom was comfortable but for someone with a bad back a little too soft. Full-size single beds in the twin bedroom is great when itâs an all adult party. The bed linens were all crisp white and the towels were huge and soft and lovely. Best cottage, would highly recommend, would definitely stay again, only down side is the huge price increase for next year, but I guess you have to pay for the extra comforts.

We loved Buck Place and stay every year.
Itâs in a lovely area, with great dog friendly beaches and pubs. The on-site pub has had some negative reviews, but we gave it another try and was surprisingly pleased, best itâs been since pre Covid. Itâs a Shame the on-site pizza place is never open, we wish it would go back to a cafe. The on-site shop has everything you need at reasonable prices. We didnât have a free swim or use the gym this time. The cottage is a great place to kick back and relax, which is what this week was all about. The cottage is so lovely, comfortable and clean, itâs a great place to rewind and chill out. Not sure why the sofa was making mechanical groaning noises, but it still seemed comfortable!!! Maybe itâs a sofa bed? It wasnât really BBQ weather so we didnât use it on this occasion. The patio table and chairs are wooden and the chairs arenât the most comfortable for relaxing on, they probably need an upgrade(although perfectly stable- just uncomfortable). So we sat several times reading in the master bedroom on two lovely clear plastic chairs with the Juliet Balcony doors open soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the breeze. There was a little welcome pack, with tea, coffee, milk and biscuits and a tennis ball for the dog, those are the simple things that make you smile when you arrive so another big thank you to Sharon and Pete. Weâll be booking again.

Upon arrival at Anvil Barn we were impressed with the barn and how very clean it was.
There was plenty of kitchen utensils, crockery, etc., it was well equipped for our stay. It is nicely decorated. If we do have any criticisms, it is that the kitchen tap is wobbly and probably could be replaced and the sofas in the sitting room are very low when you sit in them, for an older person or someone that suffers with a bad back then this might be an issue, however they are comfortable. The location is wonderful for a nice quiet holiday, Bainbridge is not huge, so no hustle and bustle of lots of tourists which is what we wanted. Anvil Barn is located in a great place to explore the dales, the lake district, York and Whitby. The local pub is a great place to meet some of the very friendly locals. We will return to Anvil Barn and have already recommended it to some of our friends.

From the moment we walked up the path till the moment we left, this property was not up to Sykes Cottages spec and we won't be using them again.
Path to cottage uneven and broken, stains all over the outside wall, dirty windows, open the door to hallway and the smell off damp, walls crumbling in lounge, fire not cleaned out, ashes not emptied, cobwebs everywhere, my wife cleaned the fridge, microwave, cooker and all the crockery as it was filthy. Furniture and furnishings are tired and dirty. Upstairs double uncomfortable and again the room smelt damp, bathroom, shower missing it's seal, Emerson heater cord has been broken so many time and knotted back together, toilet seat lose. The place was a lot of money, and did not live up to expectations, Staithes is a lovely place, but this cottage certainly took the shine off our New Year!
