What our customers say about their holidays

Just had the most amazing week at the Hayloft.
The scenery was stunning and the cottage was so beautiful. Just outside the front door was a lovely garden area with a picnic table, the perfect place for breakfast. The cottage itself was gorgeous. On the outside a lovely old building with all the original charm, that fits perfectly in the farm valley setting, on the inside completely modern and comfortable, with features I wish I had in my own home! Lovely decor as well, and spotlessly clean throughout. The owner Fiona was so kind and helpful and gave great advice on local hiking places. It really is a hiking mecca and I loved being able to go on so many excellent hikes straight from the front door without having to drive anywhere. I did also drive around to see the sights of the Lake District, a gorgeous area, but found nothing half so beautiful as the Hayloft site itself and the surrounding hills. Really liked that each bedroom had its own private bath with shower and that the kitchen was so well supplied, with the nicest little built-in fridge and even a dishwasher. I even found olive oil in the cabinet, a real treat since I had forgotten to buy any for cooking. And so nice to have laundry facilities, the washer and dryer were modern and easy to figure out how to use. The place is very secluded and private yet is actually quite close to Keswick, where I went for grocery shopping and for a bus tour. I also really enjoyed that the Hayloft is on a working farm, so fun to see lambs and calves out the window in the morning, and to see the dogs at work.

The Hayloft is in a special place to holiday Paths from the door lead past crystal clear streams and waterfalls, and the fields and hillsides are full of a variety of wildflowers.
It's location, a down narrow road and long drive means there is no road noise at all. If the Lakeland weather allows you to sit on the suntrap patio, all you can hear is nature and the occasional voices of walkers on the footpath behind. The cottage itself is equipped with everything you could need, along with thoughtful extras. It's the perfect balance of being attractive, warm, clean, comfortable and welcoming, yet practical. For example, there is a porch area so you can deal with wet dogs and muddy boots without damaging the inside. There is plenty of space in the living area for four adults not to feel cramped on a rainy day. This is our third visit and each year work has been done to maintain and keep the property at it's high standard. Having really looked forward to arriving all the way up the M6, when we get there it is always better than anticipated. All you want to do is drink in the views and relax. John and Fiona are good people and kind and welcoming hosts. Another reviewer said it's a privilege to be able to stay here and we 100% agree.

Very nice house, the super king double in the front bedroom was really comfortable, plenty of hot water as well.
Just a couple of things, storage in the bedrooms was limited, they seemed to have bought furniture for one room and spread it over two, there was room in the front bedroom for a chest of drawers/dressing table but just had a wardrobe, the back bedroom had that but no wardrobe, the small bedroom had neither! Log burner but no starter pack (I have stayed in places where this is supplied). They ask you to leave the property clean but there are no cleaning supplies (one nearly empty bottle of some sort of anti bacterial stuff under the kitchen sink). There were some loose dishwater tablets left. I have been self catering in the Lakes and various other places for years, this is the first place I have been that there is literally nothing left there for you! Also the drier on the washer dryer isnât working properly, you might want to get that looked at, everything was coming out hot and wet!

The property was in an excellent location and the view at the back was to die for!
The kitchen was well equipped but much of the crockery, cutlery and utensils were grubby. My husband discovered that the top drawer of the dishwasher was too low so the rotating arm was unable to spin. We raised the top drawer and so the dishwasher worked better and cleaned things properly. The lounge was comfortable but poorly lit if you wanted to read in the evenings. The bathrooms were good, the shower was great although it was pretty hard to turn the temperature down and reading through the guest book this has been mentioned before. The beds were comfortable but the bedroom furniture was lacking and not particularly functional. When we arrived, we were unable to get in to our property as there was some garden maintenance being done. There was no notification of this but we were able to get in to the property about 10 -15 minutes later.

Really good property, with close access to Keswick.
Pros: - Modern kitchen and dining area, with open plan - Great bifold windows - Good toilets and shower - Lovely garden, really well maintained Cons: - For a place in the Lakes, a bigger airing rack is needed to dry clothes - Install an outside washing line to air clothes - Have an ironing board. There's no point just having an iron - Lake lovers should do more to keep a few bin liners, hand wash in each toilet, and more tea towels. There was one tea towel to dry and none of the other above products. A customer should not have to spend a lot of money for a week's stay and then buy bin liners. A few could at least be added for the beginning of the week - Upstairs curtain poles are loose, to the point of breaking off. They need replastetring and securing. - Bit more colour/pictures to the upstairs bedrooms
