Historic Appleby enjoys a reputation as one of the prettiest market towns. Shops, cafés and restaurants offer local crafts alongside local cheeses! Look out for High Cross on Boroughgate, which is the site of the original cheese market. For train enthusiasts, or those looking to enjoy a journey through the stunning surrounding areas, Appleby is on the Settle to Carlisle scenic railway line. Steam trains run weekly through the summer months and the Flying Scotsman passes through on the line from time to time – a sight to behold.
A short stroll form Clarence Cottage is Jubilee Bridge and weir. A lovely cozy cottage, really warm. It is small, we struggled with the kitchen as not much worktop, this lead to more meals in The Rotal Oak nextdoor. Great roast and amazing steak pie on pie night.Lounge ok, we were not fans of the stone floor but personal preference. Upstairs was amazing, big bathroom, great bath. Big bedroom with very comfy bed and to.Welcome pack appreciated but note there is only enough tea, coffee and sugar for initial arrival.Note to owners: oven gloves, bath mat and cleaning products would be useful.Fantastic location, great walk into village with loads of shops and pubs.
