Guests say

Tuc-Tin Cottage in Clun is a charming, cosy retreat ideal for couples and dog owners, with a beautiful garden and excellent access to local walks, pubs, and amenities. Guests consistently praise the friendly village atmosphere, comfortable interiors, and well-equipped kitchen. While some mention minor maintenance issues and occasional road noise, the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, with many guests returning for repeat stays and highlighting the cottage’s relaxing, homely feel.

Most guests found the cottage clean and well-presented, with several describing it as 'immaculately clean.' A few noted cobwebs or areas needing a tidy, but these were exceptions rather than the rule.

The location is highly praised for its proximity to scenic walks, local pubs, shops, and the village centre. Guests appreciate the convenience and the picturesque setting, with only minor concerns about road noise and parking.

The cottage is described as cosy, warm, and comfortable, with a relaxing recliner sofa and a comfy bed. Some guests found the stairs steep and the bathroom location less convenient, but overall comfort is rated highly.

Facilities are generally good, with a well-equipped kitchen, garden, and games cupboard. Some guests noted maintenance issues such as an ageing shower curtain, tired towels, or lack of Wi-Fi at times, but these did not significantly detract from their stay.

There are no specific mentions of welcome gifts or extra thoughtful touches in the reviews, so a score cannot be provided for this category.

About this property

This is a cosy, one bedroom, terraced cottage, located in the picturesque village of Clun in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Traditionally-furnished throughout with an old world cast iron range, it really captures the original character of the cottage. Downstairs, there is an open plan living and dining area, with a stunning arched stone fireplace housing the freestanding old-fashioned range, with oven and small fire cradle offering the novelty of the warming glow of a natural fire during the cold months. The separate kitchen enjoys countryside views. Upstairs, there is a comfortably spacious bedroom with a craftsman-fitted pine, overlapped floor and a large thick rug, extending either side of the bed to add extra cosiness.

Tuc-Tin garden has a stone patio, which has a combined bench seat and table, ideal for eating outdoors during the warm weather. There is a pleasant, enclosed lawned area for relaxing and sunbathing in, with an arched bench seat at the bottom of the garden to suit the afternoon sun. The 800-year old Clun Castle ruins can be seen from from Tuc-Tin, approximately one hundred yards away, with the hills of the beautiful Shropshire countryside beyond. With two pubs in the village, as well as tea rooms and high quality butchers, there is everything you need on your doorstep. The surrounding towns and villages are all easy to get to and a half-hour ride can take you to Ludlow, Bishops Castle, Church Stretton, Long Mynd, amongst many more idyllic places to visit.

Travelling around Shropshire, Hereford and the Welsh countryside offers relatively quiet roads so you can get to your choice of destinations very easily, whilst enjoying the journey through the beautiful green hills and woodlands, whether you are walking, biking or driving. This is a fantastic property for couples to enjoy all year round.

A.E. Houseman's poem, A Shropshire Lad, defined Clun as 'the quietest place under the sun', and with its dramatic ruin of a Norman castle, Saxon church, the bustling river which flows under the 14th Century pack horse bridge, and a country inn, Clun is a rural gem situated in the South Shropshire Hills.

The local pub, The White Horse gave us a friendly welcome and Sunday lunch was lovely! The only thing that let it down was that the bathroom could do with a refurb, we felt it let the rest of the house down. Saying that, we would stay again, we just think it needs modernising. A new seating arrangement outside is also needed, the bench is in a state of disrepair. Bed was lovely and comfy and had a good nights sleep. I personally prefer a comfy sofa rather than the recliner sofa but that's my personal choice. Cooking facilities and kitchen utensils etc were all there.

The cottage was immaculately clean and bedding and towels provided were high quality. TV and wi-fi both worked well. Five minute walk to Spar shop and White Horse pub. Lots of nice walks in area and local people in Clun the friendliest we have ever met.
