The Old Byre is a two-storey holiday cottage which is situated ten minutes' drive from the bustling Cumbrian town of Appleby.
Set over two floors, this cottage provides ideal holiday accommodation for the family within easy reach of one of Cumbria's most important towns.
Most of the rooms in the cottage are situated on the ground floor. Here you'll find a dining room and lounge area as well as the fully equipped kitchen and bathroom. There are two downstairs bedrooms, making the property ideal for guests with restricted mobility. One of these is a double bedroom and the other is a twin room. Upstairs, there is a galleried landing with views over the lounge area and a further double bedroom.
Outside the property, you'll find a patio area with seating, perfect for an evening drink as you watch the sunset or for sitting outside and reading a few books during the summer months.
The property is located in the small village of Sandford, putting you within walking distance of an excellent village pub serving high-quality meals. The town of Appleby, roughly a ten-minute drive away, has a selection of shops, pubs and restaurants and the smaller town of Kirkby Stephen, boasting a number of boutique outlets, is within easy driving distance.
Both of these towns sit upon the world famous Settle and Carlisle railway, making it easy to enjoy the spectacular scenery of the Ribblehead Viaduct and beyond and offering simple access to the Yorkshire Dales. You'll also find that the spectacular scenery of the Lake District and all of the outdoor activities it offers are within an easy drive of your cottage.
This is a superb cottage which is easily able to accommodate a large family or two smaller families. It is an ideal choice for anyone keen to explore the great outdoors and enjoy some excellent food and drink during their time in Cumbria.
Appleby, famous for its horse fair. The northern Pennines are within easy reach and offer alternative walks and scenery in a less frequented area than the Lake District. For those who enjoy cycling the Eden Valley is an ideal base to enjoy the great outdoors with its quiet roads and country lanes waiting to be explored.

The facilities and set up have had very few changes over the years, weâre happy with that. To completely modernise the place would ruin the feel of it. The local residents are friendly and helpful. For those wanting to eat out, the Sandford Arms serves good food at a reasonable price. For food shopping, Kirby Stephen, Appleby and Penrith are all an easy drive away, with a wide selection of shops. Kirby Stephen and Appleby both offer good takeaway options if youâd rather eat at home but donât want to cook, just check opening times and days online. One of the things we love is having the fire and Iâve now found decent, more economical places for wood, B&Q in Penrith and the Grocers in Appleby. Overall, this feels more like our second home than a holiday hire. The only thing I think that does need improvement are the beds. I think the mattresses could do with changing for something a bit better.

! 5 of us, including 3 children (and 2 dogs) stayed in The Old Byre in late October, although the weather didn't play ball, the cottage was brilliant and the facilities were spot on! Log Burner was always on
