Oakerthorpe 1.2 miles. Set within a Grade II listed residence, surrounded by 14 acres of countryside and woodland in the peaceful location of Alfreton near Oakerthorpe in Derbyshire, is Bluebell Cottage. This charming, self-contained cottage enjoys captivating views of the historic Wingfield Manor, and provides a welcoming getaway for a romantic break for two to the Peak District, within easy reach of the Peak District National Park and the towns and villages within the Amber Valley. As you approach the estate via the delightful tree-lined driveway, which is lit up at night giving the distinct feeling of a royal welcome, you will find convenient off-road parking spaces for one car on the driveway. Look forward to cosying up on the plush leather sofa in the sitting room and enjoy a glass of wine whilst enjoying the warmth of the electric fire in front of your favourite TV show. Rustle up delicious evening meals in the fully functioning kitchen, ready to enjoy around the dining table as you plan the days ahead. When sleep calls, retire to the king-size bedroom with original flagstone floors and beams, and snuggle into bed with your favourite book before drifting off. Guests will benefit from a delightful shower room, perfect for freshening up after a long day of exploring. Enjoy your morning coffee at the lovely outdoor dining table or enjoy a soak under the stars in the hot tub on the private patio. Guests can also enjoy the communal lawned area and cooking up a storm on the shared barbecue, along with accessing a communal freezer and handy washing machine and tumble dryer in an external utility. Take advantage of the cottage's vast surrounding estate, which is comprised of vibrant formal gardens, an orchard with fruit-producing trees, paddock and a well with natural spring water, all overlooked by the spectacular centrepiece of the 17th century country home. Well-known for its beautiful views of the Derbyshire Dales and scenic walks is Oakerthorpe, a small village which is comprised of several pubs and a glorious nature reserve where visitors can take the short walk around the reserve and maybe even spot the local wildlife! For any historians, a visit to the English Heritage site of Wingfield Manor is a must; once a remarkable manor house, its impressive 15th century ruins tell the story of battles of the past. Visitors will find any amenities they require in the neighbouring market town of Alfreton, while just a short drive away is the village of Crich, home to the National Tramway Museum, where you can journey back in time with a ride on their world-renowned vintage trams, showcasing spectacular countryside views and informative exhibitions, ideal for all ages. Just a little further afield is the delightful town of Matlock, which is nestled in the beautiful wooded gorge of the River Derwent; over the years it has become a tourist favourite with its excellent selection of restaurants, traditional pubs and links to the attractions of Gulliver’s Kingdom and the Peak District Mining Museum. Whilst in Matlock you can hop aboard the Peak Rail, which offers visitors the chance to take their seat and ride on both vintage steam and diesel trains on a disused line, if you’re looking for something a bit different, book onto one of their dining trips! For walkers, grab your walking boots and conquer the uphill climb to visit the Pic Tor War Memorial, a Celtic cross remembering those from the First World War. Bluebell Cottage is an idyllic retreat that will leave you feeling refreshed and will have you wanting to return as soon as you have left!
