Guests say

Catmint Cottage is consistently praised for its cosy, homely atmosphere and beautiful location, ideal for peaceful stays and walking. Guests appreciate the welcome pack and the property's well-stocked kitchen. The garden and meadow add to the charm, though some mention a busy road. Overall, it's a highly recommended and comfortable cottage with a few maintenance notes.

Most guests found the cottage clean and tidy, contributing to a comfortable stay. However, a few guests noted issues with general cleanliness, dog hair, and stained mattress protectors, suggesting room for improvement.

The location is frequently described as peaceful and perfect for walking, with easy access to local attractions and a good pub within walking distance. The busy road was a minor concern for some.

The cottage is often described as cosy, warm, and comfortable, with spacious rooms and comfy beds. Some guests felt the cold and noted a small duvet, but overall the comfort level is high.

Facilities are generally well-received, with a well-equipped kitchen and good outdoor space. However, there are reports of maintenance issues like a leaky shower, problematic TV, and dated bathrooms, indicating some areas need attention.

Guests frequently mention the thoughtful welcome pack, which adds to the cottage's charm. While these gifts are greatly appreciated, it's important to note that such amenities may vary and are not guaranteed for every stay.

The parish of Dethick, Lea and Holloway is steeped in history and Lea is also recorded in the Domesday Book as Lede; the famous Florence Nightingale spent much of her early life at Lea Hurst. The peaceful village of Lea offers visitors friendly pubs, tea rooms, restaurants and the famous John Smedley factory. Rural Derbyshire is a real treasure trove offering everything for the visitor including country houses, historic halls, medieval ruins, heritage railways, cycleways, beautiful unspoilt countryside and pretty villages. One of the closest attractions to Lea Hall is the Heights of Abraham. Built on the site of historic lead mining, the hilltop park is approached by cable car which rises up and offers some spectacular views of the Derwent Valley and surrounding Peak District. Visitors can tour the network of caverns and passageways left behind and explore the 60 acres of woodland hillside and buy souvenirs at the gift shop. Alternatively, for those who appreciate stately homes and gardens, magnificent Chatsworth House is highly recommended, as well as Haddon Hall and Lyme Park, all of which have been film or TV locations over the years.

Great location for a break in southern Peak District. Excellent food at local pub. Ideal cottage for three couples to meet up.

Lovely stay at Catmint cottage. It was cosy and warm despite some really cold weather. The welcome pack with milk, a bottle of fizz and snacks was very welcome after our journey to get here. Very clean and tidy. Really nice garden centre about 5 minutes away and the pub Jug and Glass did great food (but only open weekends). Another pub close by The Gate at Tansley also did great food and had very friendly staff.

It was a lovely place to stay and the welcome basket was so kind of them. We did have issues with the TV as no matter what we tried it simply wouldn't work, luckily they had board games which was much appreciated. Also the shower leaked through the ceiling only a few drops (its an old house these things happen) but did mean we had to avoid that shower luckily we had the bath shower combo that we had no issues with. Everything else was lovely and the stream was beautiful. The Christmas decorations were a nice touch. It felt very homely. The kitchen crockery was well stocked, there were four of us and we only had to do the pots every other day, though we could have gotten away with doing them less if we wanted to. Overall it was a excellent place to stay, would love to stay again at some point.
