About this property

This is a beautiful, recently renovated two-bedroom holiday home in a most attractive rural setting on the edge of Thornthwaite village, which is three miles from the bustling, market town of Keswick. It lies in a peaceful location next to the former Swan Hotel, which has been converted to exclusive properties. The cottage benefits from extensive shared landscape gardens to the rear of the Swan. It's a great base for walkers and cyclists with good forest tracks from the doorstep, to Whinlatter Forest Park and the fells beyond. It is ideal for a family or two couples.

Walk through the hallway to find your two delightful and spacious bedrooms on the ground floor: a double bedroom with king size bed and lovely, en-suite spa bathroom and twin bedroom, which is served by a separate shower room. Walk upstairs to discover a bright and stylish open plan space full of natural light and tasteful décor. Your sitting room area is cosy and comfortable with appealing roof lines, stylish furnishings and a warming electric log stove. Take a few steps up to admire your fully fitted, modern kitchen and dining area. Walk out on to the balcony, sit for a while and start to anticipate alfresco breakfasts and memorable family evenings in this lovely space.

Drive to Keswick to browse its specialist shops and to have a bite to eat at one of its excellent restaurants, cafes and pubs, then walk through the town to beautiful Derwentwater and unwind as you look out to the shimmering lake. Enjoy a lake cruise to and experience breath-taking views of the surrounding fells. Keswick offers, specialist shops, excellent restaurants, cafes and pubs, market days twice a week, a renowned theatre, well-loved cinema and much more. Walk from the centre of Keswick, through Hope Park to the shore of beautiful Derwentwater, have a bite to eat at the Theatre by the Lake’s café, then enjoy a scenic cruise.

The popular town of Keswick is the holiday centre of the North of the Lake District and has plenty to offer the visitor at any time of year. The town boasts numerous shops and restaurants to suit all tastes, as well as offering miniature golf, excellent parks, the famous Theatre by the Lake, a charming cinema, the Pencil Museum, a climbing wall, fishing and great mountain biking opportunities, whilst the beautiful lake of Derwentwater at the head of the stunning Borrowdale Valley is only a few minutes walk from the town centre. Nearby, between Braithwaite and Buttermere is the beautiful Newlands Valley, while picturesque Bassenthwaite Lake is well worth a visit. From a gentle countryside ramble to a challenging hike up Skiddaw or the famous Catbells, there really is something for everyone. Visit Castlerigg Stone Circle, the Jennings Brewery and Mirehouse, a grand house and gardens on the shores of the Bassenthwaite Lake, or take a fabulous boat trip around Derwentwater. The only gripe inside is that there was only 1 bin liner , and 1 cloth to clean all the surfaces in kitchen & bathrooms so we had to go out and purchase some along with antibacterial bacterial spray & toilet cleaner could also do with a light bulb outside we would have replaced it ourselves but there wasn't one . Saying all this we would still go back and stay in sygnet it's so peaceful and we love the area .

Very well equipped with everything you could possibly need. The outside light at the front door was not working and there was no replacement bulb. As it was winter and dark and the cottage is in a fairly unlit area I emailed the point of contact in the information book, when the person got back to us we were advised she was out of the country on holiday, not ideal if you needed something. Bins - the information sheets etc refer to the bin being next to the cottage, it is not , you have to walk beyond Swan House, not ideal with a large bag of rubbish and bottles/cans for recycling. The information in the cottage needs updating to reflect this.

Although, in other Sykes properties we have stayed, should it be the case that we'd forgotten to pack salt, pepper etc, there would be a supply of the basics at least. Alas, at Cygnet cottage there was absolutely nothing like that.
