Offering a couple a wonderful retreat to get away to in the northern Lakes is this lovely cottage, All Saints View, in the small market town of Cockermouth. Close to Bassenthwaite Lake and not far from Keswick, this calm town is less of a tourist spot and more of a hidden gem, with its own streets steeped in history and heritage to discover. The ground floor of the property begins with the living room/diner where you can serve up a romantic breakfast for your other half, and come back from a long walk to the comfort of the sitting area and the TV. The kitchen has all you need for a self-catered stay, and completing the ground floor is bathroom. Once up the steep cottage stairs, come to the king-size bedroom here, with a decorative metal bed frame paired well with the classic cottage features, like the now decorative fireplace. From the landing head through the patio doors and onto the first-floor balcony terrace overlooking the church and the graveyard, a scenic and serene spot to wind down whatever time of day. Step out onto the streets of Cockermouth and discover what this pretty town has to offer; among the local shops and quaint country pubs, you can also find a piece of history, with Cockermouth being the birthplace of William Wordsworth and his sister Dorothy, their Georgian family home is now owned by the National Trust and offers an insight into what life was like in the 1770s for all those who lived there. Head over to Bassenthwaite Lake for a picturesque walk along the waters, with walks and trails accessed on the eastern side. On the shores of Bassenthwaite is The Lakes Distillery, a wonderful distillery in a renovated Victorian farmstead, offering tours and tastings for visitors, it's a perfect couples activity. The Lake District Wildlife Park is home to an array of animals including zebras, lemurs, otters and many more all within the beautiful Lakes setting. Nearby peaks and fells include Grisedale Pike, Grasmoor, Mellbreak and Watch Hill, so walkers can delight in an epic choice of routes and trails. Spend a peaceful break in the northern Lakes with your loved one at All Saints View.
Cockermouth is a small town settled in the north-west of the Lake District and is famous for being the birthplace of William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian. A good selection of shops can be found within the town along with pubs and restaurants. The River Derwent and River Cocker meet in the town, with the Derwent carrying on to Bassenthwaite Lake nearby. The Lake District Wildlife park is a great day out for all ages, while adults will enjoy a trip to The Lakes Distillery to see the making of whisky, gin and vodka.
